Rumiko also made a translation.
http://forums.findthelostring.com/thread/1526

EDIT: After seeing this, I corrected my translation:
train ouselves -> perform trainings
because the postcard doesn't write who is trained. And,
didn't take place in time -> were too late
because what was confirmed should be that the the landslide started earlier than expected.

Could it mean "Northern"?

The part of California on the pacific plate is moving northward past the rest. Eventually, when Pangea Ultima forms, it will reach Alaska, in the northern part of the supercontinent.

Grammatically saying, the post card can be interpreted in two (or more?) ways:
1. north = "in the direction of Neopangaea"
2. in the direction of Northern Neopangaea
Rumiko's translation is 1, and mine is intended to be 2.

But I think California is inside the future Neopangaea, so I am not satisfied with either. The Japanese word "hougaku" means only spatial directions, not general ways of changing like the English word "direction". So I think we cannot interpret "direction" as the way of supercontinent transition.

Rumiko's translation:

"I have confirmed what we feared the most. We were too late for Intercalated Games. Now California started moving (landslide) towards north, the direction of Neo Pangaea. We have traveled this far to perform trainings in a place with frequent earthquakes. We must stop the world from collapsing. Or, We will never be able to return home."

In red, with scratches on it, in English:

"Noriko if this happens in 2008 it will be your fault"

"Stop Now"

I'm just a little old Chariton here, so I have a couple of questions:

If WHAT happens?

and

Stop WHAT?

The "fault" is a cute touch, what with the earthquake zones being important.

Check out this cool map. California isn't on it. OOOOOOooooooOOOOOOOoooooo

We're doomed I tells ya! DOOMED!

Noriko said both the goggles and the postcard were in an envelope that came from San Francisco.

Wait, you are asking an entirely different question.

My answer: I don't know! Dunce

Re: Handwriting on postcard (flashbacks of Def Leppard logo)

This may not be Theo; he usually makes a point of making sure the receiver knows the message is from him. Perhaps he is working with someone else...or we have another Minotaur.

Alright, here we go.

Can't really add more to what hmrpita said, except we were all real nervous. Holy crap we were going to meet an in game character in real life! This was a first for all of us and it ended up being amazing. I will have to remember to email and thank her.

Got the pictures I took, along with the scanned postcard on my flickr. The postcard in question is below. Noriko did her best trying to translate this, but had some trouble because she is not a fluent english speaker. I scanned it to 300 dpi, so hit the all sizes button on flickr to see the huge version there.

I have a video also, will upload it later tonight. *runs off to catch the train home*

So, what is this picture of? And what is that word between "postage" and "stamp"?

It also kind of looks to me as if the card has been scratched over the red texts... Are those scratches words or just scratches?

Noriko didn't give us any context about the front picture, so take from it what you will. The word between "postage" and "stamp" is some kind of logo, looks like it says "CPKO", not sure about the second letter, if it's even a letter. On my flickr page click the "all sizes" to get the high res version, it's better than looking at the postcard IRL. Smile

Yes, those are scratches carved into the actual paper of the postcard.

It's "CyKo". Found it. What that website tells us is that "Cyko" was a company that made paper for quick printing post cards. According to this website that particular logo was used between 1904 and the 1920's. The fact that there is a divider line could narrow the time frame even more.

I vote 1906!

San Francisco earthquake of 1906 happened on April 18, and 1906 Intercalated Games were held April 22-May 2 (only four days after!), so the postcard should have been written at that time.

And pita, thank you very much for your nice and detailed report of SF meeting and for having said hello to her for me! But I feel sorry she seems to be planning to stay away from Japan until Beijing Olimpic. I saw Lucie is going to move to Near East, so the six might have started moving around ...

Yeah, Theo seems awfully proud of himself. Who else do we know that's been in or around San Francisco?

I refuse to believe Kai would go to all this trouble to help us and the six out and then do something creepy like this.

Which leaves Renata. No idea why she'd do this, but she's the only other suspect I can think of. (sorry, Larissa Sad )

The first thing that came to my mind when I first saw that postcard pictures was that it was a massive labirynth made out of big logs of wood.

And I'm thinking not Theo too. He (/the PMs) would be consistent with his hand writing. Minotaur nš2?

First off I think we've an Association of Minotauri. Known members Theo and perhaps this one who I will call RedRune until he/she is identified.

Interesting Tunguska Blast happened in 1908

could who ever has the original postcard do a wax rubbing of it? (you know tracing paper over the original and a crayon rubbed on it's side?) that would reveal the carved marks.
