[Missions] Mythopoeia Cheat Sheet <tweet>
Finished a wall cheat sheet for #lostring http://snurl.com/2471t. Runner later. Too much? Too Simple? Not enough? Mythopoeia represent!
</tweet>
Might be a bit crowded visually, but I can reduce the size of some of the images which will give it more white space.
Since this is something that is supposed to be handed out at practices, I was really shooting for a 1 page piece to give a quick WTF is going on, and then the finer details would likely be explained verbally.
Of course, it'll need to be done in multiple languages too.
Edit: I actually fixed one spelling error and repositioned some of the text, making some of the images smaller, so there should be more whitespace and make it a little easier to read now.

It looks beautiful. If I was going to change things to get more white space, it would be by reducing text, not images or image sizes.
I think the overview sounds great, but maybe it could be shortened and the language simplified. It is a text heavy spot on the cheat sheet.
You will be the walls the walls of the labyrinth, creating a path for the blindfolded runner. You will hum, to guide the runner with audible feedback. Usually there are not enough people to complete walls for the entire labyrinth, so you will simply form a portion of the walls in front of the runner, and continually reform the walls as the runner moves towards the exit.

Yeah that's a good point. Shorter concise sentences. I was a bit heavy on the nouns and adjectives.

Hmm, for me, the text is a little hard to read--gray printed on black, it looks like? Also, for the people who'd print this out at home, it'd use up all their black ink pretty quickly. :O

You're seeing a black background? Because I'm not. The text is black on white, but there is a large (and faint) background image of a labyrinth drawing that might be coming out black in your view?

I'm getting it as black, too. Would you be willing to make a version without a background image for those of us with this problem?

Yeah.. let me do that.. its gotta be why some people are having trouble reading it properly.. its primarily black text on white background.
I made it compatible for Acrobat 7 and 8, so older versions might not display it properly.
I didn't understand what people were saying about being all black.. Hell, Akralia is seeing it in blue!!!
Ok.. I just deleted the background and reuploaded it... check again and see if you see it without a colored background now. If still having problems, tell me what version/application/OS PDF reader you are using. I may have to sacrifice some size and make it compatible with older versions.

Would you believe I had another typo? It was a grammatical error so I kept missing it.. Luckily there is a coffee drinking editor among us.
Updated again.

Ooh where's the typo so I can check to see which I printed this morning.
May I suggest a "How to draw a Labyrinth" cheatsheet that we might print out on the back of it? Using the method that Ariock used and the added last step I posted in my photostream on flickr so it resembles your laby.
You do nice easy to understand work.

Okay, I made these instructions on laying out a labyrinth pattern for my own reference, so... It's not what I would call "pretty" but it gets the point across (I hope).

If you want to keep your eye on this link. I'll eventually make a nicer version of these pages. Possibly getting them translated into other languages if I can.

Thanks HHM! Those look great too.
I'm a little disappointed about my cheat sheet because even through I twittered it with #lostring as well as sent Ariadne a direct tweet, I never heard back from her.
Add to that the fact that i posted in the IG forum about it, and in that *very thread* she later posted that she was still looking for one.
Either she's missed all my communications or she's not happy with the result.
I tried sending a message to her gmail account this morning, again providing her with the direct link and asking if she wants changes to be made, letting her know that I would definitely make them.
I had also asked several times about getting images to be used for other items, such as TShirts for labyrinth coordination and just for promotion. Never heard back, but I see from Mr.J that some folks did receive some. At least I can lay my hands on them that way. Still no response about the legality of using the images for promotion though. Maybe I should just assume that they can be used to promote in any form, since clearly they seem to be given to us with that intention.

You're very welcome Weezel! Lucie seemed to like it when I sent her the link over Gtalk.
I did notice that your cheat sheet does not specify that the wall people only hum when the runner gets near and then stops when they pass.
I also suggest that you start this same thread over in Ariadne's forum.
As far as using promotional images to make promotional items to "hide the truth in plain site" I think they're hoping for that. The trick is to do it in such a way that you're not making money off it. For instance, I made all kinds of stuff through Cafepress for i love bees (see the !buy link in my sig) but everything is at the base price cafepress sets for the item.
What I'd LIKE to do is make some designs (when I'm done with this Leadership Paper I have to write for class) of my own and create some t-shirts and such but a little bit of profit which can go directly to whatever coffer pays to run uf.

Eek... I already set up a CafePress (obviously this shouldn't stop you from doing your own, with whatever designs you like!) for some general labyrinth/"trovu" stuff: http://www.cafepress.com/ftlr . I was waiting to post about it til I could make sure the quality was okay. There's no 'profit' price, it's all the base thing.

I was planning on the same thing. I think we both thought about the images at the same time too!
Anyhow, I finally got a response.
Quote:
yes yes use them on anything like! kai and i give you OFFICIAL PERMISSION!!!!
The problem with the free version of Cafepress is that you were always limited in the amount of variations you could have. You could have a Sophia shirt, but not a Sofia shirt AND a Chariton shirt. It's one design per one item.
However, I have a Cafepress shop that I pay for (for friends and family). So I would have the luxury of doing individual shirts (or other items) per strength. I just wanted to get permission to use the images.
Same idea, with a not for profit products.
However, I've been toying with another site which allows me to do the customization AND has a different array of colors AND doesn't cost me money every month. Right now, I usually mark up all my items by $1-2 dollars, that way I cover the $6.95/mn that allows me to do the variety of shirts for people. The intent was to give away my time, but not have it cost me out of pocket for the monthly. Been doing this for 2+ years, but have gotten to the point where there aren't enough new orders to cover the monthly costs, so I'm looking to cancel my Cafepress store.
So that's sorta OT.
But the bottom line is that I now intend to put shirts up for all the strengths and make them available for people, more likely than not on the totally free site, so I don't have to do any markup. I'll post as soon as I do that.
