I think that's a PRUVODEREHAVIGO code, because I see many slashes.

Just noticed it too, it's upside-down? Looks like it

I think I can see you're seeing by turning it upside down- maybe the "Pruvo" part? but when the cropped picture is upside down it appears to have an illustration on the page under the code, and that doesn't fir the pattern we've seen so far.

When looking at it right side up, it appears to have 5 sections, like our typical code.

Either way, it hurts the eyes!

FWIW, I'm fairly sure that the provo codes are checksums. I haven't tried to figure out exactly which checksum is used because knowing wouldn't help find new PDF files.

I applied a sharpening filter to the picture, and got the attachment. Not sure if it really helped, I think I can see a G, maybe some M's and A's.

Need to get ahold of the picture enhancement tools that they use in the movies. Wink

All slashes look like doubled with intervals of about ten pixels. Possibly we need a special deconvolution filter to correct doubling. Rotation would be anticlockwise 156 degrees or so.

EDIT: rotating clockwise 24 degrees was found to be correct.

I'll see what I can do with it later when I am at my desktop with all the good things thereon. The laptop has Paint Shop Pro which is proving no bueno por caca.

Meanwhile, the first two sections look like C--L/T4G- to me, if that helps.

If it helps, here are some general things I've noticed looking at codes on codex pages:
the letters will be caps, so they're slightly higher than the numbers in the line. The slashes start even with the top of the letters and drop lower than the bottom of the numbers. The bottom half of the numbers tend to be faded out.

Oh em Gee.

[META] This was what I had hoped to come out of emailing Ariadne about it last night - I asked her to pass on this image to Kai, because if anyone was going to have a picture enhancement tool like in the movies it would be:
a) Him, and
b) in the ALTERNATIVE reality side of this game - not this one.

I've got to get leave for work in 10 minutes, but I see that overnight this has totally blown up from Ariadne posting the single image I sent her out to the community. It's not that I didn't want everyone to know, I just hoped the PMs could discretely fix this situation in-game (as I suspect the Bruxelles artifact was).

What happened in Hong Kong can be closest likened to some of the reactions to Orson Welles' War of the Worlds radio play.

Essentially, my old University friend totally freaked out when she looked at the contents of the envelope, and got really worried about just what she, and the rest of us, were getting into. They reminded her of some really negative experiences she'd gone through in the past, and distressed her so much she did indeed destroy the original. Shocked

Like I said, I was hoping to quickly and quietly solve this in-game to save from embarrassing my contact further as she feels pretty stink about it. As do I, naturally. Embarassed

I've got to get to work, but will catch up with y'all later on. There's some more blurry photos of the Codex, which I'll upload later on.

Sorry about all this.

Would be interested to hear what others would have done in my position?

And what do you recommend I post on the in-game forums? That Theo got to her?[/META]

that's just crazy... I like that the PMs are running with it though; except for the fact that it is kind of a personal matter...
How/when did you get the photos? Are there any clearer shots, or is the one posted the clearest crop of the code?
and it's actually been made into the latest sofia mission...

I guess now that we know what happened, we just need to figure out the code.

clearly, as per previous missions, the missions posted to the strength pages aren't entirely made or planned in the game... so it adds a little more 'realism' to the entire mission, which is pretty cool

I'm sorry your friend had such an unsettling experience. Don't feel too bad yourself, please! And don't give up hope. I think posting it to her forum and suspecting Theo is the very natural reaction of Ariadne the character. It still could be fixed through Kai or any other deux a machina if the PM's see fit. Meanwhile, we can squint at the available photo and maybe the others when you get the chance.

I don't think you need to explain things any differently in-game.

decoding the recovery code

hi friends,
the entry we have above, where you see all the prior codes listed, is the right way to go.
try cropping all the codes, as high-res as you can get, and maybe we can assemble them all here.
the problem then boils down to character recognition; we gotta match the fuzzy image against the known targets. - gj
