 [OT]Cloverfield rip-offs

Has anyone noticed that there are now TWO films coming out in theatres with the "Home Video"ish style being used, we now have

Diary of the Dead
and
Quarantine

both zombie movies, both going for the same style of Cloverfield. I just saw a preview for Quarantine when I went to see Prom Night the other day

both of those movies have been out for quite some time, and have either just been bought by a major company or are getting their own big release.

quarentine is a remake of a spanish film called [rec], i dont know when that was made in comparision to cloverfield.

diary of the dead- i know nothing about really.

there's also a new movie called "paranormal activity" which is the same style, but that was also out as an indie film for a while.

cloverfield went into pre production aorund 05, so if anyone knows when the other moives started you can compare it to that.

I remember reading somewhere that George A. Romero had been contemplating doing a camcorder-style movie for quite a while, long before Cloverfield had been mentioned. I'll try and find the link somewhere.

Oh, and [rec] came out last year.

Yeah because Cloverfield is the first movie to do it in the style of a camcorder.

The George A. Romero film you mentioned, thats Diary of the Dead by the way, there was a trailer for it that I saw somewhere, a group of aspiring film makers at a school use a camera to document an outbreak of a zombificating virus

Diary of the Dead and [REC] were both made BEFORE Cloverfield.

The style will get old, but just having a couple movies try this out is no rip-off, especially since they pre-date Cloverfield.

[REC] was incredible, very original and scary. Diary of the Dead... not so much. Actually it really sucked.

And by the way, I wouldn't advertise that you paid good money to see the Prom Night remake. hahah. Jesus christ, you'd have to strap me to the chair with my eyelids forced open. haha

In my personal opinion, "REC" was significantly better than Cloverfield.

As stated previously, both those films were made before "Cloverfield". So far the only film that's been a direct rip-off is "Monster", but then again it was made by a company that specializes in rip-offs.

Quarantine(wether or not its a remake) is obviously trying its best to get viewers who just saw Cloverfield to watch it. What they don't know is, that 25% people don't like Cloverfield. 25% thought it was ok. 25% loved it 25% absolutly enjoyed it.

i meant that it used the same style of filming, like a big event happened and someone with a camera is trying to record it

First off Diary of the Dead went into production and finished filming in 2007. It was just released in 2008. And Quarantine is just a remake of a spanish film called [rec] that came out in 2007. Also, Cloverfield is not the first film to use handycam style shooting. Anyone remeber the Blair Witch Project? Cloverfield Fanboys (and i am one) need to stop whining about people copying Cloverfield.
