[META] LiL-C--The Truth...Here..

Hi everyone you may know me as, LiL-C or, lil_c, or the punk hax0r kid in #beekeepers..I will now tell you exactly what happened how it happened. On Mon, 2 Aug 2004 22:23:39 -0700 (PDT) I sent an email to blogger support...the exact email was. (hi, i own the blog ilovebees but the email i use to use when i signed up for the blog was hacked...i also forgot my password while been caught up in all this mess. please help me thank you very much). I had no intentions of actually following up with anything else as this was a mear joke to see if they were dumb enough to realize i was just playing a joke. On August 3, 2004 1:23:36 AM I received a reply from them. The following email went as followed. (Hi there,

So i thought to myself. Ok this is just an auto responder so no harm done ok. The next day I went to niagara falls with my dad. We had this planned for a few days now. I did not have internet access there although the was a few internet kiosk's but I didn't have time to use them. When i returned this morning I checked my email. I realized I had around 40 new emails. Usually I get around 10 every 3 days so this seemed a little strange. There was an email from blogger support at August 3, 2004 2:00:57 PM. The message went as followed (

Reading this blew my mind I never thought that this would actually work but it did. I then went to #beekeepers and was barbarded with questions asking (What did you did, why did you do it, anykind of questions you can think of) I was so scared. I didnt want none of this to happen. People telling me they knew who I was. Everything about me. To me thats kinda scarry. I had no intensions of doing anything bad and I'm very sorry for inconvience I caused all you and I promise it won't happen (on my behalf) again...

it was an intersting thing to think of doing, though i don't know what you figured it really would accomplish. i'm actually suprised that it did happen. just a lil' weird i guess, thats all.

lets just hope to not see copycats or something like that, cause it could become a huge pain.

but yeah, no more! haha. Shocked Silly

Well, there are worse ways to learn the lesson, I guess.

And it's a valuable lesson for all of us: just because it's called an Alternate Reality Game doesn't mean it doesn't take place in the real world. Every website, voicemail system, e-mail account and blog runs on top of some kind of infrastructure that isn't part of the game and must remain inviolate.

Although it's often a fine line between in-game and out-of-game acts, we're lucky enough to have a forum full of ARG vets who have been around the block and up to lover's leap with the fine folks putting on the Haunted Apiary. So, if you don't know if taking a particular act will go over the line, ask about it here. You may get trouted, but it's better than the alternative.

Just as a small note...if you have to question whether you should be doing something in an ARG, or have any question of whether its possibly bad...Don't do it. Just like real life. Smile

Sorry for bumping an old(ish) thread, but has anyone made Blogger aware of the enormous lack of security on their site? Hell, if this worked once, who's to say someone with more nefarious intentions won't pounce on this?
