[TRAILHEAD] Adopt a Space Monkey? I say, go for the pirate one! Just received this in a comment in my LJ:
I'm ... needless to say, I'm rather timid about adopting a Space Monkey on my work computer. *laugh* But there it is for what it's worth!
Edit: Tagged as trailhead . -SpaceBass

uh...
wow, that's weird. if you click on "download now", it asks you "Who is he?" and has a entry box with "validate" next to it. i tried "Tom", and it brought me to a blank white screen with the text ""She is small and wild and free, the question though was 'who is he?'"".
what the heck? is this a rabbithole or not?

And so he granted her will, that she could kill
although he may not be her king
she may now inflict that mortal sting
but upon her neighbour
she should not scorn
for her life we would soon mourn.
Edit: I think it's not an ARG tho.

First I got the same response as dposse when I tried to download one. But then I went back to the main page and now when I try to download, all the weirdness is gone. Strange.
There's also an animated movie called Space Chimps coming out this summer, but I don't think this is related to that project.
EDIT: it seems if I go back to the home page, the same response happens, ie Validate and then "She is small and wild and free, the question though was 'who is he?'"

that sounds almost like Shakespere to me. It's obviously from someone who is British since they use the British spelling for many words including "Neighbour".

Weird! there is an exclamation point hiding in the upper right corner. Clicking on it redirects to a page with Spacemonkey games?!

I got the same comment. So far, spotted nothing more interesting than some flash games. Oh yeah, the download page asks you a mysterious question.

I went ahead and called, but I got a busy tone.
I'll try again later.

Okay, guys. This looks a lot like a riddle to me.
The question is "Who is he?"
The poem tells us that a man gave a woman the power to kill (hardly a childlike website feature).
The answer is the name of that man. What could the poem be referring to?
Also, check your history, you should be able to back up to the question page again.
EDIT: Spoilered for newcomers (I always forget that....)

I wouldn't call her... I think it's a real person, and not a character. I don't think you set up an LJ 3 years in advance just for an ARG. She mentions I Love Bees in her LJ, so she's obviously familiar with ARGs. And being a computer programmer...
Hypothesis: She's the creator of an ARG-in-Progress, the people that got commented are her first targeted players, and she didn't count on the unfic community from swarming her poor adoptable monkeys so fast.
Therefore: I wouldn't call her until all else is out of the question.
And I think Valtiel has the right idea.

Space monkeys. Cute.
And yeah, I'm with jelloarm. Calling that number until we have definitive proof it's an "ARG number" as it were, is likely a bad idea.

Aww, thanks jello ^^.
I tried searching for the poem by putting a couple of lines in google, but I didn't find anything. This is probably an original poem, but don't take my word for it.
EDIT: Also of note is a couple of things I've noticed, I'll spoiler both for newcomers.
1:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The first line is attached to Space Monkey. The 2nd and 3rd lines are attached to Hippy Monkey, the next two are attached to Pirate, and the last one is attached to... pornstar....
2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The fourth one is called pornstar space monkey.... normal kid site, eh?

I'm trying to think of any mythological women that were given the power to kill by a man. I suppose, if you want to look at killing in the more general sin sense, and you want to look at Lucifer as a man, you could say that by tempting Eve into eating the fruit, he gave her the power to sin, among those sins murder.
This seems like it takes far too much working to fit, though.
EDIT: "and so he granted her will" implies that this might actually be the reverse, and that the answer may be God. Or the creator of an automaton or artificial being of some sort.
