[META] Offtopic: OOG and IG

Actually there are several discussions regarding the concept of OOG (out of game) and IG (in game). In most args (iI Know of) there is a game, where everybody acts as if "this is not a game" and something "behind the curtain", where everybody is discussing the events like it is a game. My experiences so far was, that this could be separated more or less clearly.

In FTLR this curtain is very thin. IG characters refering to the OOG wiki and OOG Trailers which are used to give hints (like the new omphaputer command) how a character uses a command in the future and we contact this character telling her about this command Confused

On the other side I remember my first contact with an arg. The best period was, when I did not know that this was a game. After finding unfiction the whole thing was not as fascinating as before. So all this OOG behaviour is making the game less funny in my opinion.

What do you think. Is it possibe to organize an arg, where no OOG is exisiting anymore, e.g. no hints on sponsors, like McDonalds, no press like for FTLR, no trailers, ... and IG characters also coming to uF, which would lead to a totally different acting of the players here. You even would not know if players are casted by PMs or not.

Players could never be 100% sure that this is a game. You always would think "is this perhaps real". Of course the story would be not that fictional and it will be not about saving the earth again Smile

On the one side I would like this idea on the other side there are so many "ethical" questions. Is it ok to totally "play" with people or will it be a nice lesson for them to not trust things in general. What happens if offical persons (e.g. police) will be contacted by players. Is it at all legal?

Imagine that even after the arg has ended, nobody will stand up and saying this was a game. People perhaps will discuss years later about if this was all real or not. All events that happened were real, just some characters played some game (but that happens also in real life every day).

I love this idea, really. Very War of the Worlds! But it could, like you say, cause some trouble if police were called in a panic, etc. The theme of the game would have to be very carefully chosen, to not potentially put anyone in danger, or cause anyone to burden or alarm officials.

Hi,

I would really like becoming involved in such a game as described by AUZ505! In fact, I've considererd the idea several times before and wondered how it could be realized.

However, I think the only way to prevent OOG discussions is to really make people believe that they are not playing a game. I'm not as lucky as AUZ505: I got into the scene at least partly knowing what it was all about (though, when driving to my first real live event, I wasn't completely covinced that it was a game anymore). This said, how can we even be sure that there are not already people out there who are involved in such a game without realizing it? Of course, they would never come to unfiction to tell us.

So, to find out wether an no-OOG arg is possible, probably someone just has to organize one. And please, find out my address and let me know about your rabbit-hole! Wink
