Hooray, an even longer wait time! All I have to say is that it better be worth it.

I've been waiting far too long for EE to start up again...

For my money, even if it's only a "Name this pastry" quiz it will (be/have been) worth it.

Name this pastry!

hmm... but you mean name as in "what is his correct name" or as in "what would you call this pastry if it were, for instance, your son"?

I'll go with the second, and I'll name that pastry Mary Alfred.

Of course that's what I meant. Obviously... right then...

You twinkie lovers are scary trying to spread the addiction. Shame on you... Shame!

MEREDITH GOAD, Portland Press Herald Writer wrote:

The transcendental Twinkie
It was like one of those moments crack addicts describe when they talk about hitting bottom.

Aimee Dorval was pregnant and having cravings that were difficult to control.

Her drug of choice? Twinkies.

She'd already had one bad day where she went through an entire box. Now here she was, watching a truckload of bakery waste being unloaded on her farm in Knox. Among the piles of unwanted pastries and baked goods that her husband was about to feed to the pigs, she spied some creme-filled spongecakes wrapped in cellophane.

Dorval grabbed all the Twinkies she could and hid them in the pantry before the pigs could get them.

"They were still good," she explained. "They still had, like, three more weeks until the expiration date. And I'm like, 'The pigs are not getting these! They can have the bread!' "

Twinkies are the opposite of slow food. If a Big Mac is fast food, Twinkies are in Warp 5. At a time when fresh and local are the buzzwords of the food world, Twinkies - the nerve! - are still made of things like corn syrup, sodium stearoyl and polysorbate 60, whatever that is.

But they have perservered where other junk food fads have faded away. Twinkies outlast their own expiration dates.

The snack cakes turned 75 last year. To celebrate, Hostess asked Twinkie fans to send in their favorite recipes for a cookbook that was published this spring. The responses were creative and, in some cases, a little scary.

It turns out that, somewhere out there, there are people making things like "Chicken-Raspberry Twinkie Salad," the creation of a former Peace Corps volunteer who knows how to make do with whatever's in the fridge. The recipe calls for ingredients like balsamic vinegar, jalapeno pepper, cheddar cheese and, of course, Twinkies.

For finicky eaters, why not try "Pigs in a Twinkie," an unfortunate combination of pork sausage links, Twinkies and maple syrup. "It's important to make sure that the sausage is cooked thoroughly," notes Janine O'Barr, the Burbank, Calif., woman who submitted the recipe, as if that were the only thing to worry about.

But for people who love Twinkies, there are no boundaries. Anything is possible as long as it's wrapped in that golden yellow spongecake.

Aimee Dorval is one of those people who always begged for a Twinkie in her lunch box. When she got older, she brought them to work. Her future husband tuned in quickly to her addiction and used it to his advantage, wooing her with Twinkies.

Dorval, who describes herself as a tiny person but hardy eater, says one of the best Twinkies she ever had was a fried Twinkie at the Florida State Fair.

"It really is great," she said. "It's crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside."

Light side? Dark side? Feh.

I am Gray. I stand between the light and the darkness, between the candle and the star.

Hey, I may be a Beacon of Light, but I also know the truth about those Twinkies. It's all here in this file (which is actually the opening chapter for an impro which went nowhere, but don't hold that against me).

Read this, and please try not to cry.
