mentioning the cards

Quote:
I've also tried to alert Alice Klein, the current owner of the mirror,
is this a slip up on the part of the writers or a clue of some kind? How come he manages to mention the mirror here when the mirror is a card?

He supposes that because the "World" has mentioned the name of a card that the entity must be a traveller like himself, so presumably the restriction does not apply to travellers, only to the creatures that inhabit the mirror world.

PS Do the stories have to be short stories or can they be 300 page novels? Laughing Second chapter now posted...

no worries Doublecross!

By the way, I went to the British Museum at lunchtime today, to have a hunt around, just in case. I'm pretty sure there's nothing further of interest near Dr Dee's mirror (useless fact: it's in the same room as the Rosetta Stone), but I took a bunch of photos to try to decipher the note on the mirror's case and on a small gold medallion next to it - the photos on the BM website are not quite good enough to read what they say.

I'll post this evening if I find anything even vaguely useful...

I think it's up to the author Razz Mine was pretty short.

I don't like mine as much as I did when I wrote it, though :/ I'll have to fix it later.

I'm really enjoying everyone's stories so far, guys Wink [META] Major props to the PMs for coming up with such a cool idea[/meta]

Sorry to be a bit dense but where are you posting these stories?

Do you think references to John Leslie might put MA on the track of Wheel Of Fortune? I'm not sure if MA was the type to watch it :p but maybe he could buy a vowel from us.

I'm wondering about where he could go to get the wheel of fortune anyway, according to wikipedia it's got loads of meanings, most obvious being change in situation, turning points, destiny and sudden events. Is there any alice in wonderland character who embodies those traits? Perhaps the queen of hearts, she can both reward and punish, and it certainley seems down to luck whether she lops off your head.

Alternatively perhaps the Wheel of Fortune will be a concept, as the lady MA met for his first swap (the eastern european, perhaps Justice, or Death) was, and the card The Hermit was as well (solitude needed to find it). In which case MA should probably look for it in some where chance is important. Should he go to a casino? Or should he take a big risk? or should he decide his direction based on the roll of a die (or spin of a wheel Smile ) I think he definitely needs to trust to fortune to find the wheel of fortune, as he needed solitude for The Hemrit, and something deadly for Death etc.

A few pages back we discovered a website that Marsh-Ayre is using to communicate.

Just posted a story too. I've read all the others and it's obvious which card MA should go for, but I thought I'd write one just for fun.

Hehheh. You're all making me feel bad that I didn't make a single Alice reference in mine Razz

Too lazy to fix that now, though.

Not only a PXC in-joke, but maybe Dr Doom's going to use this card to cheat in some way.

Just caught up on the forum and I'll post an utterly bizarre story tomorrow.

Adrian Hon from SixtoStart has a short piece on BoingBoing:

http://www.boingboing.net/2008/04/17/we-tell-stories-webn.html.

He talks about next week's story:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We're really pleased with all these stories, but the final sixth story is coming out on Tuesday, and it's the one I'm most impressed by. It's basically an unholy cross between a text adventure, choose your own adventure, and dungeon map. Technically speaking, it's not very sophisticated, but it has an interface that I'm sure hasn't been done before.

It's written by Mohsin Hamid - author of the Booker-shortlisted 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist'. I would be the first to say that good novelists or screenwriters don't necessarily make good game writers, but in this case, Mohsin really nailed it and he wrote a story that shows a very deep understanding of interactive storytelling; it's called 'The (Former) General in his Labyrinth'.
