Extrasonic, I agree with you on all levels except one - see, if we use Dana's email as a return address, the replies will all go to Dana's address.

What I was thinking was that if

a) our speculation that the ladybee777 entity wants is to communicate with Dana is correct,
b) we think it's a good idea to help the ladybee777 entity, and
c) the only known way the ladybee777 entity can communicate is by replying to e-mails (and possibly embedding text in images on www.ilovebees.com)

then it stands to reason that we would send ladybee777 a message forged to look like it's from Dana's gmail address. I agree with you that we wouldn't be party to the conversation (or one-sided monologue, given the slim-to-no chance Dana will check her e-mail anytime soon), but it might trigger an in-game event - or at the very least, help the ladybee777 entity believe that we're trying to be helpful (again, if we want to give off that impression).

Well, we could always try sending an email with a forged from: field and a reply-to: field that will come back to an address we can read. But that might be a bit too meta for this game -- besides, what if SP twigs on to what we're doing? Not the best way to build trust.

It doesn't have to be a trick

Well, if we were fooling the ladybee777 entity, then yeah, there would be the risk of alienating it. But if we told it what we were doing (i.e. "hello, we're forging this e-mail since the only way we know you can communicate for sure is reply to e-mails you're sent") then that might be acceptable. Again, I'm not sure we want to help, or I'd have done all this already. Smile

And yes, it might be too far outside the box, too meta, etc. to think that this action would be required to move the game forward, but it'd be interesting to see if it had an impact on the way the next phase plays out.
