I did not expect the story to turn out like this.

I'm actually kind of tearing up. This is one of the saddest things I've ever read. Crying or Very sad

I cant take the manga seriously. Sure, its made by Badrobot and stuff, but i think its some kind of Fan-art made by theirselfs.. just for fun.
I mean.. if the monster attacked another city before, wouldnt the rest of the world be aware of that before it attacked NYC? It would have been all over the news since those people in that other city have camera's too.

we have to see how that pans out. you OUGHT take it seriously, becos J.J. Abrams name is listed in the production credits for the manga. so, he's the one behind the wheel on this, just as he was with the film. it just probably was easier to give this bit of backstory in comic form, rather than on film. sh*t seems way more far fetched on a movie screen than it does in a book (i.e. every book-to-film translation having tons of stuff left out). i fully agree with you on the fact that if the monster attacked japan first, everyone would know. but you also have to remember, that this is an alternate reality. japan has NO military. but tagruato possesses jet fighters and warships. tokyo itself could very well be under tagruato's grasp.

but i will agree with you fully, like i said. it is still to be explained how this could happen without the world knowing. the only difference between this and the film, however, is the lack of real military presence. all we see is the monster trying to find kishin. it's not just going on a mindless rampage, like it did in NYC.

and still recall the beginning of the film. "incident site U.S. 447". sure makes it seem like NYC wasn't the only "incident".

The comic says they found in this great hugeness (I think they are referring to the seabed nectar) there was this small endless thing: Is it referring to pod or the monster?

IIRC, it says that Central Park is incident site U.S. 447. If just Manhattan island was separated into grids, then there would be at least 450 different sites. But I could be misremembering.

Thats what im saying dude, a alternate reality. Some viral for Japanese people only (or people who have japanese kind of interest Razz).
The thing you said about 447. I believe 447 was only Central Park. That would explain there a more incident sites.

In the last few frames, is it just Kishin talking... or are both Kishin and the Monster talking?

Also... what exactly does "The useless thing can abandon" mean? Lol.

Lambo, in the last frames, it was Kinshin talking. If Clover spoke (which i do not think it can), the speech bubbles would most likely be shaped much different.

And I take back what I assumed earlier, about the manga showing Clover's thoughts... I now think, based on this "Kishin has the Splinter within him and is connected to Clover" madness, that when Kishin is unconcious, he sees glimpses into Clover's mind. o_o That would much better explain the bizarre flashback pages, I think.

As for "this useless thing can abandon" line, I am not sure. I am trying to figure out the kana to see if I get a different translation (my eyesight is poor, perhaps someone can make the frame larger for me?)

I may have ruined my vision, but I think I can clarify the line.

必要 = necessity
ない = denotes negativity (so, something is not a necessity)
物 = thing

(not a necessary thing...)

は = just a part of Japanese sentences
無くなればいいんだ = Lit, It should have been gone

So...

This is not a necessity. It should be eliminated (my wording, giving it a dramatic flair~).

So, what is he talking about? I think he is talking about the world. He's been pushed over the edge. He has a giant monster to do his bidding. Who wouldn't destroy the world in his position?

we have to remember that english is kosmo's (no offense man, we love you to death) second language. it would take someone undyingly fluent in english and japanese, so i'm sure that these translations are absolutely LITERAL, not interpretive.

i'm sure that "the useless thing can abandon" means, in the english sense, kishin's own feelings of uselessness. that's my opinion and interpretation, anyway. "this 'uselessness' can be abandoned!!". he was always lamenting on how useless he was. and, in discovering what exactly he was, and the power he could now wield, that would be my thought on the matter.

and yes, the "great hugeness" would be the ocean itself, and the "small, endless thing" (endless could be a literal translation trying to convey "endlessly small", as being compared to the ocean they found it in),was most definitely speaking about the pod.
