I hope it's not too late for me to get in on this. It looks pretty cool. I haven't seen the original movie, but I can't wait for this one to come out.

Dugway Proving Grounds
Possible Meta influence on the story?

Hey guys, I've been following this on and off for a while. I saw the post on "Chemical spill" and decided to do some research. We all know by now that neither Piedmont UT, nor Millstown UT are real, leastwise, not by GoogleMaps standards. What I decided to look for, then, was the I-196 mentioned in the bulletin. It was then that I found this:

UT-196 runs adjacent to the Dugway Proving Grounds, a US Army facility designed to test chemical and biological weapons in WWII. Directly north of it is the Wendover Air Force Range. Experimental nerve agents were known to kill several sheep in the area, though the army never admitted to it. Regardless, the record states that open-air biological and chemical agents were released in Dugway. Four years ago, the Genesis spacecraft crashed into the desert floor on the proving grounds, returning from a mission to retrieve samples of solar wind from orbit. Since then, the area has become a hotbed for UFO conspirators, claiming to see lights in the sky and unidentified aircraft that military planes can't account for.

Sounds too good to be true? That's because it is.

This is obviously not the right location, it's UT-196 and not I-196. It was my mistake entering in the route incorrectly. It would put us in northwestern Utah, not southeastern Utah like Andrew is saying. Regardless, Interstate 196 is in Michigan, worlds away from our setting here. But I can't help but feel it's not coincidence... I have a feeling that the Dugway Proving Grounds and the legends surrounding it may have influenced the story a bit.

Alright, enough with the wild speculation. I do have something solid to report.

I found State Road 46. It's right in the rugged terrain of southeastern Utah, just like we want it to be. You can look it up on GoogleMaps, check the terrain button. It gets pretty burly, too. You're looking at a couple hundred-plus foot cliffs on either side of that road once you get close to the border, and my money's on it that you do not get cell phone reception out there.

Other than that, I've got absolutely nothing on the Henry River which he mentioned earlier. So that leaves us with...

Piedmont - No
Millstown - No
I-196 - No
UT-46 - Yes
Henry River - No

And thus I am done chasing my tail.

Dammit Andrew! And I thought we were finally going to start getting some action. Now it's back to waiting.

Andrew still hasn't heard from his friend who went to Piedmont. He's just updated his facebook, saying he "is wondering when his friend is going to call and tell him what the hell is going on."

[UPDATE] on blog: So now it's a military thing..? Big news

Finally we're getting some info...not much though. This is more like a 'check once a day' arg than a 'investigate for clues' game.

This does seem like an "experience" Rather than a "Game". Or an extended comercial. I Still plan on following along I just dont think this is going to have a lot of involvement from us.

Since the story is already written, I'd say it would be hard to have much latitude on the interactive side.

Fishjp--you were spot on. Another UPDATE with a vid:

Training exercise? Nash doesn't think so.
Does look more like an experience than an ARG albeit an engrossing one

EDIT--elite.fencer. Re your post below: the video plays fine on my comp
