Good idea Jasper.

How about this between: "Theo." and "We distrust..."

This is going with the rebel group option, rather than the rebel individual as suggested by Elizabeth123. What do you think Elizabeth? I agree that we should only have one message being sent to him at a time, but considered it may be a good idea to depersonalize them, the way "he" has himself...

I think a rebel group is fine, and might be more fun. But I do think you might want to narrow it down to say it'll be in the post that's talking about that specific artifact? It may be a bit much to ask him to search through every forum post.

Is someone communicating all this with Ariadne? I think she asked us to.

Let me know when recruiting for the rebel faction begins Twisted Evil

PS I have so many different email accounts that it's hilarious.

Yep. I'm keeping her posted. Smile

EDIT: Working on a final update of the message now - including a pointer of what thread to watch...

Okay - here's a final draft... once again, any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is it best to use the London Artifact thread, or should I suggest another?

We distrust the Agonothetai.
We want to hear your story.
We want to help.

We will hide our messages in Ariadne's forums.
Watch the discussion about the London Artifact.

We will use a variation of Bacon's Cipher.
View the Source.
Examine the spacing between words.
Single-Space = A
Double-Space = B

We will contact you soon.

The Faction.

The Faction? Very Happy For some reason, that sign off makes me laugh.

Heh... it was all I could think of at short notice. Very Happy

Any recommendations of an alternative?

We've got a little bit of time left.

hmmm. Does it need a signature? Just the "we hope to contact you soon" might round it out.

There was a request that this be translated into Esperanto, so I did. Hopefully I didn't totally botch it. When we handwrite it, please replace any letter with an x after it with the preceeding letter with a thingy over it.

Theo.

What would you think about being a little more subtle about the deciphering.. saying something like.

---

They were told to find space for their labyrinths. They were told to hide them in plain sight.

We too have found 'space', and we too have hidden it in plain sight.

Look to the source, and study it, as one might study the works of Shakespeare to determine who was the real author.

---

I dunno.. it just seems bit more poetic and cryptic than saying A=1 B=2. The clues above still almost hit you over the head, but and least have a feeling of secrecy to them.

I agree. I don't think you have to be obvious. Your's is much more appropriate for "secret" communication.

Excellent. Smile

I'll work out a rewrite with Weezel's suggestions worked in and a greater sense of secrecy.

Should have it up in an hour or so...

Wow... I like it. I really would have to solve this puzzle instead of designing it Smile

EDIT: Well, this is what we've ended up with - thanks to everyone's input, particularly Weezel's. Thanks again also to thebruce for the whitespace element to the stenography method.

Lhall is going to email it to macmonkey in London, and it will be left for Theo when the Artifact is collected.

From here it is vital that we closely control how this method is used to contact "Theo", so please do not use it on the forums unless given the a-okay in this forum.

Once we've got confirmation that the drop has been made, we'll consider our next move. I'll report back to Ariadne as well, and see if she has any further advice or light to cast on the situation.

For now, things are rolling along!

Something I read in research...
... could be another tactic

I was doing research on Peace Studies and I came across this:

"One major aspect of Gandhi's nonviolence
embodied a stance of non-injury, or ahimsa, to
the enemy. Destruction of the opponent merely
perpetuates the injustice one tries to overcome.
Instead, the goal is to win the opponent over the
one's own side."

Somehow this resonated with me as another way to persuade Theo and his group... lemme know what you think Smile
