i would find it pretty hard to imagine that the PM's could fake the presence of someone in a Beijing hostel just for an ARG, how would you even do that? just becuase its empty in real life, doesn't mean she's not there in game

edit: clarity

So I have to ask a question of the grizzled veterans here.
What's the best way for us to go about this? We do need to communicate in-game what we know to Dana, and open up some sort of dialog beyond, "We're here to help!", we say. "Yes! Thankyou!" said Dana.
What has worked best for this sort of thing in the past?
Not that I'm a veteran, or particularly grizzled, but my $0.02:
Treat Dana like a real person. If you want to tell her something, just tell her. If you want to ask her something, just ask. Send her an e-mail, or post a comment to her blog, if you wish. (Remember, TINAG, especially to Dana.)

Given how astoundingly well planned this game has been so far I think it does. They could certainly do that.
As for faking. Whose to say that a game character isnt currently sat in front of a computer somewhere in a Beijing hostel?

I may not know from ARGs, but Marathon ... well, I'm used to Bungie's rather idiosyncratic writing style by now.
My working assumption is that the PMs will prefer the cryptic to the precise in their correspondence (though we *do* have the advantage of actually knowing more than an in-game character this time). That is to say, they might prefer to answer questions that don't demand a concise answer, but allow a lot of room for interpretation and gamesmanship. But perhaps that gut feeling comes from playing too much Marathon: Infinity .

Excellent post, babbler (especially considering your nick I totally agree that by keeping to the tone and mood they've set, we'll see greater results.
Look, for instance, at the mail that Dana quotes in her blog. It is well role-played and done with the whole "TINAG" mindset. It's their game so we need to play by their rules, and Bungie is eccentric to the extreme. I mean...note the date 8+6=14. A multiple of 7. It's nothing truely significant, it just a rule that Bungie sticks to. 7's & 3's will be on everything they have a hand in. We know what their M.O. is so we need to play to that. I wouldn't be surprised if something else happens tomorrow, it actually being the 7th. It's less likely now, but I won't be shocked. It's pretty much company policy.
So lets get cracking on Dana and SP. Give them some good TINAG communication so they have plenty to respond to.
Now if only we could kill all the trolls posting to the blog...

Has anyone checked out the authenticity of http://www.indo.com/cgi-bin/dist?place1=san+francisco,+ca&place2=beijing ...i'm not new to the argn scene so this "might" and i mean MIGHT be a sight connected with everything somehow...in the recent Da Vinci code arg they used a Munich Bank (i think) as one of the sights you had to use to continue the game....i don't think it has anything to do with it...but oh well

They could have booked a hotel room somewhere over the net and told the owners that they "may be a little late".
I don't see how we could actually gain any valuable information from her whereabouts anyway though.
I think getting a site inventory is the best way to go.

I see a problem with the Honey Hostel. It doesn't list Internet Access like some of the others. Maybe that doesn't matter, but it is a thought.
She could be at an Internet Cafe.
