the chief fire officer is on annual leave. And they have a substitute 'acting' in his place at the moment. The woman used the word acting, which I found strange.
This is actually quite common in certain organisations (such as universities). I'm mildly surprised that you haven't come across the term before. It is possible that the acting chief would have known about the Lost Ring.

If I were still in Melbourne, I'd join one of the groups headed to the museum. So, all I can say is, good luck!

GOT IT!!! , the melbourne artifact has been recoved.

in the second room of the museum in the left hand draw of the chief fire officers desk. stangly ennough the only room with out sercurtiy cammers!!.

well heres how it went down. at 10am-ish , me and my friend wyatt went to the museum and perchased entry tickets. we then had a look around and i knew where it was in like the first 2 minutes.
We then proceeded to have a look around and take some more photos.
then about an hour later when we went back to the room/office i asked the guide who just walked in about the desk. and then that i belived there was a clue there. (he seemed to have no idea). he then pulled open the draw and found the clue, after a bit of convicing he handed it over and we were on our way.

the clue came in 2 sheets in a A4 lenght envolope,

the envolope is labeled Western Marylard Railway Company.

the pages are ch.21 and seem to be describing the tides in relation to the moon and some storms. this cannot be confirmed yet as i know no esperanto.

the code is: pruvo de rehavigo: JOER/QGA8/994S/LFGN/6820

note: not sure if O's or zeros and i cant get the code working see flickr images

all images of trip uploaded to flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/25614100@N03/sets/72157604689564247/

in relation to the envolope look what i just found on wikipedia

Portions of the former WM are now operated by West Virginia Central, the Maryland Midland Railway, and Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. Other portions are now rail trails. A portion of the former WM right of way within the city of Baltimore is now used by the Baltimore Metro Subway.

Edit: from the little translation that i have done. the chapper is titled visions and it is talking bout the oricle and multiverse comunication.

Chapter 21

Visions

We know the wonders which the ancient oracles saw with their omphaloi, during those first days of multiversal communication.

We know, that the ancient Olympiad was created in order to celebrate these wonders – honouring the many, and uniting the worlds in a spirit of unity.

But we also know the terrible things, which the ancient oracles saw with their omphaloi.

We know, that the agonothetai designed many of the traditions of the ancient Olimpiado not only to celebrate - but also to be careful. They tried to prevent the hugest terrible thing from occurring in their own world.

And we know which terrible events can still occur today, when the worlds fail to keep and honour these great traditions.

The First Catastrophe and the New Catastrophe

In 500 BC and in 1815 AD, the worlds finished.

First the oracles, and then the scientists watched with their omphaloi. They watched the end of other worlds.

Great fires burnt. The earth was shaken. Seas leapt out of their ways. Everything collapsed – and was then pulled again into totally new shapes.

Pangaea, the form from which all differences came, returned but this time in a new form. Neopangaea. The oracles and the scientists watched these things – the changes revealed before their own eyes.

And after the great destruction, a strange mix of survivors roamed in a single continent surrounded by a single sea. They wandered, seemingly for ages, until few survivors remained that mostly differences collapsed again (?), and Neopangaea was a single world once again.

The Ancient Greeks tried to intervene

For centuries, the ancient Olimpiad guarded our world and those from our alliances – nevertheless, few knew their true aim.

Even while functioning secretly, they succeeded. And the First Catastrophe did not happen again – not for a very long time.

Afterwards, with the repression of the ancient Olympics by the Roman Empire across many worlds, the multiverse sufferred on account of a dangerous quick wave of new worlds. The worlds were constantly a majority, and without any great co-operative aspiration for resoring the co-ordination of the worlds.

As a result, already by the early 19th century all but a few thousand worlds were destroyed, and the surviving worlds were mostly severely damaged.

This was the new catastrophe.

The agonothetai across the many worlds tried again to intervene. That helped, but there were too many important worlds still not part of the circle of allied worlds.

In fact, Micha has visions with our own temporary omphaloi, he informs us that changes still happen – however still not at the scale of the first or the new catastrophe.

We're staying for a time – but not for long. We are firmly decided to prevent the catastrophe happening again.

It's both pages.

I had real problems with one sentence: "Ili vagis dum sxajne agxoj, gxis restis tiom malmultaj postvivantoj ke plejparte la diferencoj kolapsis refoje".

I've translated it as "They wandered, seemingly for ages, until few survivors remained that mostly differences collapsed again" but I'm not happy with it.

If anyone could help, that'd be great!

Not a direct translation, but a good colloquial phrase might be "until they overcame their differences" or "their differences were few" ?

I think I can understand the sentence just by adding "so" ="tiom"

They wandered, seemingly for ages, until so few survivors remained that mostly the differences collapsed again

namely,

They wandered for a long time, and at last, there remained so few survivors that most of the differences disappeared again.

Say, can this word also be translated as "ring"?

Um... I suppose it can be translated as ring if you consider circle and ring to be synonyms. Maybe under some circumstances. If they meant "ring", I think they would have written "ringon" as in "trovu la ringon perditan".
