...and, stuff we should've already known.

We were handed a piece of paper with a clear intention to let us know that there's a password to be found and we/I made no real progress towards that.

Like I said in chat, I don't think the game is stalled. I think we are.

Sound like this Ron is our best chance for any information leaks/help.

He gave a pretty big clue right there, well done konamouse.
As for the memo, I think it's important to find out who leaked it.
I'm assuming it was Meyer, who was probably fired for doing so.
Of course, the webmaster might also have access to some of the computer files.

I thinik we need to find out more about Mr. Boyle. He obviously has access to tons of information.

Here is the email I sent back to Ron this morning:

Quote:
Hi Ron.
I know you are busy but I hope we can still continue our
correspondence. I like your sense of humor.

> overboard with the whole secrecy thing.

Well, I know that in many shows there is a secrecy clause in the
contracts for the contestants that they cannot reveal they have been
selected for the show, the process, the outcome, etc, until it is
shown on tv. Usually that entails a substantial financial penalty.
I'll bet you had to sign some sort of similar agreement when you
accepted your job since Tomorrows Talk seems to produce those kinds of
shows.

> All the files that are passed around about the new shows are
> actually encrypted and you need a password
> to open them up. I haven't quite figured it out yet but they have
> this system set up where the password is actually in the e-mail
> or cover letter
> you receive with the files. Is that crazy or what?

What is crazy is that you are part of the IS team and *you* aren't in
the loop for this encryption? Guess you don't have to pass around any
of those memos or files (you guys still using diskettes - I rarely see
those anymore - seems like everything is on CDs or just emailed/stored
on servers these days). But I won't open anything sent in email that
says you need a password (which is usually provided in the body of the
email) since I have been warned those are actually viruses.

> I'm not sure who the webmaster was before me although I know
> his name was Ed.

Ed? Weird. Often webmasters leave signatures of themselves in sites
they design. Haven't seen anything with "Ed" on the Tomorrows Talk
site. I think I heard about someone named "Greg" working in IS, is he
still around?

> That's another thing that the people around here have been
> almost strangely quiet about too, but maybe that's because so
> many of them are relatively new here like me.

When did you start working there? Are you enjoying your job (although
it sounds like you are going through a big workload push - I hope they
pay you for overtime). Sounds like there was a clean out of people if
so many are new all at once. A friend of mine was looking for someone
at Tomorrow's Talk named Richard Meyer....is he still there?

> How to get in touch with this Ed? Who knows?
> But I'll see if I can find out anything else about him.

Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy day to help me. You
don't know how much I appreciate it. I'm looking forward to the
UrbanHunt page update (maybe you'll sneak your own webdesign signature
in it as a little hello to me???).

*kiss*

Hey! I was talking about that in chat last night! Laughing

Anyway.. He wouldn't have access to that information, because we found out about the diskettes through the memo that JC got to us. So, he might be a little confused.

But, great e-mail with great questions. Here's hoping it turns up another clue.

Got a reply...

Hi Varin,

Yes, even though I complain about being so busy and having to work some
nights and weekends, I am actually very grateful to have this job. I've
always been fascinated with television and reality shows so getting a job
as the webmaster for a TV production company was like finding a pot of
gold at the end of the rainbow. And although there are things about
working for Tomorrow's Talk I don't like very much, I do realize I am
lucky to be here.

I too feel sorry for the receptionists here at times. They certainly have
their hands full with phone calls lately. I personally don't understand
why the executives aren't fielding their calls right now. I would think
they would want to with all the buzz that Urban Hunt has been creating.
Instead of being excited and happy though they seem irritable, nervous and
edgy. Maybe it's my imagination, but I'd swear they've all been looking at
me strangely in the last few days, watching me when they think I don't
notice.

God, listen to me. I sound a little crazy, don't I? I'm sure I'm just
feeling the fatigue of working too many hours. That's why I enjoyed
receiving and answering your e-mail I think - it was a welcome break from
all this work.

Take care of yourself and have a great weekend.

Great!

Keep the emails up!

It looks like pretty soon he may get pretty paranoid about the higher ups and reach for you to help!

So, if you call TT and are nice and calm with your story to the receptionist, she enjoys the interaction and you get to leave a voice mail.

I called from work this afternoon (4p PDT) and, of course, got the receptionist. I asked for Ron, she asked who was calling.
I said "Heather".
She asked for my last name and "What company are you with?"
I answered "Heather Hunter" and that I was just someone who had been communicating with Ron over email and was wondering if he was still at work.
She said she would check. I was put on hold (elevator music, natch).
She claimed he wasn't answering his phone, would I like his voice mail.
I agreed.
His outgoing message skipped his name but did give me a chance to use my nice flirty voice to leave a message:
"Hi Ron. This is Heather....you know me as konamouse over the internet. I was just wanted to say hi and that I enjoy our emails. I hope you aren't working too hard and get a chance to enjoy your weekend. If you ever want to talk, you can call me...." and left him my contact phone number.

I've been told I have a very young, cute voice over the phone Wink

(BTW, I've changed my phone outgoing message so my real name is not available. When the incoming call is not a number I recognize, I simply answer "hello".)

Anyone else here concerned that the Powers That Be at TT might be monitoring Ron's company e-mail?

Kona/Varin: You might want to see about getting a "private" e-address from him. Just a thought.

Hi Heather,

Thanks for writing me back. I also hope we can continue to write back and
forth. It gives me a much needed break from all the hours I have been
putting in lately.

Believe me, I do understand the need for secrecy around the shows we
produce. It just seems a little excessive sometimes when files being
circulated within the office are encrypted. And no, we don't use diskettes
anymore. Almost everything is on CD, so I'm not sure where you got that
idea.

It's funny you asked about "Ed" again; I just stumbled across some CDs
labeled "webmaster tools" today in a storage area when I was looking for
some supplies . I haven't had time to check out what's on them yet though. Maybe there will be more information about "Ed" in the contents of those discs.

I don't recognize the Greg name you mentioned as anyone currently working in our IS department. Do you know how long ago he worked here?

Damn, I really do need to get back to work. Sorry I don't have the time to
make this any longer but the bosses are watching everyone, me especially
it seems, like hawks lately. Maybe it is my imagination but I feel like
this place has gotten really weird in the last few days. Thank God the
weekend is almost here. Smile

Thanks again for writing. I hope you you have a great weekend.

Woohoo!

Looks like things are going really well with Ron as far as emails go. So you think we'll eventually be able to tell Ron about Dread House and get him on our side?

[speccity spec!]

I'd imagine Ron is going to have some trouble when it's time to look over the contents of those discs.

I don't know quite how you'd be able to just happen to know a password he might be able to try (if'n we ever find one!), but this might be a good place to use try one.

I'm thinking that we need another Interoffice Memo for comparision - and then maybe we can figure out how to find the password.

So, I'm going to be working on my response today. What do you think I should include?

Some have suggested I pose the "REAL" question in the form of another puzzle.

Toss me some ideas and I'll combine them, discuss them in chat tonight, and off it goes.

After some discussion in chat tonight, here is the next email to Ron:

Quote:
Hi Ron,
I hope you didn't have to work this weekend (but I understand the sometimes a webmaster job is 7 days a week). When is the Urban Hunt update due?

> It just seems a little excessive sometimes when files
> being circulated within the office are encrypted.

In the reality tv business, I suppose new ideas are as valuable to the producers as gold or diamonds. Look at all the flak between NBC and Fox over the boxing show this Fall. Where I work the only computer protection is our passwords to log on to the medical record computers. And those are records that really *should* be encrypted. Have you done any encryption? I wouldn't know how to do that for disks.

> It's funny you asked about "Ed" again; I just stumbled
> across some CDs labeled "webmaster tools" today in a
> storage area when I was looking for some supplies .

He's the guy who originally created the TT and the Urban Hunt websites, right? Wow, maybe he's got some stuff on those disks you can use when you update the Urban Hunt site (and will you be able to include your own personal touch to the site)?

I'm thinking about doing a web site if I get one of those Online Advisor positions. I have a lot of friends who are reality tv fanatics and some of them have done fan sites for some of the shows - maybe I could do something like that for Urban Hunt. Except I don't know much about website building - maybe there are some things on that disk you can share with me to build a fan site.

> make this any longer but the bosses are watching
> everyone, me especially it seems, like hawks lately.

Would it be easier if you had a different email for our chatting? Did you know I have a blog? It's called HeartHeather.

> Maybe it is my imagination but I feel like
> this place has gotten really weird in the last few days.

Do you know what is making everyone so freaked out? Readying for the launch of a new show? Everyone is probably on a tight schedule. And when is Urban Hunt suppose to start filming? Did some of the company bigwigs find out about the autoresponder email that had a message? Hope they didn't. On the other hand, maybe one of the other applicants called or emailed one of your bosses. Unless they routinely avoid reading their emails or answering their voice mails. Sure hope they don't think you created the message. Ed did, right? Can't imagine why else they are watching you like a hawk. Only really paranoid people would do that. Maybe they are worried the show isn't going to sell?

> Thank God the weekend is almost here. Smile

Wish I could be so happy about that. I have a second job on most weekends. The job is nice, but the parking situation is a bitch. However, finding email from you always brightens my days. Hope to hear from you soon. Good luck with the updates.

*kiss*
