James, a new wild card.
Is he Theo?

I just posted in another board and thought I might share the theory here. On Sunday when we in SF had our Labyrinth training session Kai was in attendance. He also brought the friend, James, who prompted his trip to South Africa. This was, obviously, the catalyst that set off our mission to find the lost ring, but what if that was never the intent of this trip? What if James is either Theo or working closely with him and intended to stop Ariadne from becoming known? What better way than to be the first on the scene and to plant fake notions in her head of who she is and what her purpose is? James is an unknown factor. He hasn't been working with Kai that we know of.

If he was there to find Ariadne before anyone else, but only knew vaguely (perhaps from accessing the omphaputer) where to find her, it was just our luck that Kai discovered her first and was compassionate towards her situation. Being a friend of Kai's and able to take this trip with, I think it safe to assume that James either has significant resources himself, or was using his friendship as a means to get to Africa.

Ariadne is the dikaisune so stopping the leader among the six would have significantly hampered our progress and possibly stopped it completely. Your thoughts?

Did James give you any reason to suspect him? Did he look look shifty? Was he particularly good at the lost sport? Did have any tattoos on his arms or spare antique postcards in his pockets?

If James is Theo, I hope he has a pal in London to pick up that note.

There wasn't anything particularly shifty about him, nor any direct evidence, but Kai was making sure that he made the point that James initiated his trip. Also, Ranger D and hmrpita told me that they thought they might have seen him when they and Ariock went to meet with Noriko. (the "man taking pictures who had to be up to no good" from their account)

According to this site, the name James is of English origin and is a variant of Jacob (Hebrew) "he who supplants."
