Who says he had to come from a deep trench?

Hud knows much less than we do, probably he knows only what he saw on TV on the electronics store. I think he was kinda speculating that it came from the sea.

At first I was of the belief of what splashed in the Atlantic woke the monster also. But I rewatched it a few times on the dvd and it lands maybe 2 miles off shore. That is not nearly as far out as the drilling stations or anything else. And if it was way out that far and that visible splashing down it would have been a huge and created quite a wave. So if it is what woke the monster, that would mean the it went farther out to sea then returned to the shore.

Hud mentioned aliens too. I think that might have been a wee bit of a joke about the early speculation right after the trailer came out, as they were still shooting when that came to light.
Chuai station is in the deep ocean, although not tremendously close to any trenches of significance. It's pretty well a given that the station was destroyed by MGP, even if it's not mentioned by anyone in the film. I'm sure a bunch of hip young New Yorkers weren't keeping that keen eye on international news and Tagruato, considering Hud's commentary on MySpace barely raised any interest or response from any of the other of the Slusho 7.

ive always felt that if Tag discovered the creature, which it looks that way from the manga, then they found it when they went looking for the lost satellite piece. Not sure though since it seems they found the creature near Japan and not the US. And who knows how much the manga is supposed to go along with the movie. If the manga does then Tag woke the creature up. Remember the chains and the creature's thoughts of "i just want to sleep" , and "please leave me alone". As i said though, who knows if the manga is supposed to tie directly into the movie
