[TRAILHEAD/miniARG] Our Lost Puppy
Werewolves? the White House? Disneyworld? A little fun from our friends at Aporia CME.

Spawned off of the now infamous "werewolves theory" at the Aporia Agathon Project (See: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24481 ). Aporia CME has launched this creative little miniARG..

First the hint at the Aporia CME blog: http://news.aporiacme.com/2008/04/21/you-too-can-have-some-fun/#more-52

So here's the deal, we've lost something very important to us. It's something that took us several months to locate and obtain. It's a puppy, and its name is Buddy. You see he's quite rare; quite rare indeed. We were observing his traits and behavior to prepare ourselves for this upcoming project. We've got some more work we need to do with him, not to mention the expense that we have put into acquiring him.

He's out there and we don't know where. He's really adorable and friendly. He typically shows up at large gatherings of people since we normally stood in a large group around him. He, also, is very camera friendly. We do have to warn you not to touch him. So are you ready?

Are you ready to help us find our lost puppy?

The bold italics at the bottom of that post leads to:

Where now we get into the fun stuff...

Apparently a group over at Aporia has been working on an "Art Project" recently, involving several very special "puppies", when suddenly one such "puppy", named Buddy has escaped.

Now they are asking anyone to send in any pictures or info they may have of Buddy's "were"abouts Wink

He's already been spotted in Washington DC and Disneyworld.

And a mysterious message in code has been sent to them:

Separate the French from the cipher. Just the French is:
Quote:

Translates to:
Quote:
I assume the full responsibility for the release of this creature. You who held it are monsters. It travelled the East coast and we suppose that it will travel to the Western coast soon. We take the appropriate measurements to aid in obtaining travel to foreign places for buddy.

The cipher left over is ROT:
Quote:
you are monsters for what you have done to this creature. We, the alliance for the protection of weird animals, are responsible for setting the creature free. These beasts should not be imprisoned and you are monsters for having done as such. We spite you and hex you. Hexes on you and your families - hexes! We will protect buddy at all costs

nice one, didn't think of french at all! (maybe the rivard experience forced that part of my brain to shut down temporarily)

new post up, anyone here live in texas?

Findings

Our Orlando team has reported back just this morning that they have further narrowed down the area we expect Buddy to be heading. The report suggests he should be somewhere in Texas today between San Antonio and Houston, with a chance for Dallas. If you know anyone in these areas, please pass the word to them to be on the look out for Buddy and that we would appreciate any and all pictures they send our way.

In the meantime, someone decoded the letter we were sent. Apparently there is a group out there called the Alliance for the Protection of Weird Animals. With a name like that I would imagine the animals might would need protection from them. It looked like it had some French in there too, but I don't know a lick a French so I guess that was covered in what was decoded for us.

ps. we're hexed by them too haha

I'm in Houston, but it seems he's in Australia now. Little booger moves fast, he does. Looks like there's another message coming soon, too.

Well I figured out that the new message is in Huttese from Star Wars, but no matter how hard I google I can't find translations for some of these phrases. I got as far as:
Quote:

o: ourlostpuppySPLATblogspot.com
From: I am a friend

Hello you outlander, I am a vice president and systems consultant for personnel development and management systems. I am a friend! I am pleased to meet you.

And I think "Oto Buddy" means "I have Buddy" but after that I'm stuck.

using this page here, it looks like everything after that basically translated to "give me a gift, or I'll own Buddy. Don't and you're in trouble". That's a rough translation piecing stuff together, but use the search button and you'll get the idea...

one observation, the first half and second half don;t seem to go together... How is he a friend if he is about 6 words away from blackmail?

I was thinking it's because there's not a lot of known Huttese to work with so they just had to improvise.

The game they describe is the equivalent of "Mafia" (best link I could find without giving it much effort), but instead of civilians, mob and sheriff you have villagers, werewolves and seer.

I play Mafia all the time with my friends, its so much fun... Although my roommate dosn't like it much, because he gets killed off in the first round every time, either by the mafia, or the village...

Did any of you pay tribute this weekend?

Did any of you pay tribute to Joe Schmoe this weekend by playing his favorite game? If you did and you've got pictures or video send them my way. We haven't gotten any more tips on Buddy's location this weekend. APWA must be doing a really good job of keeping him hidden.

Our recovery team reported back that there appeared to be a mass shipment of kangaroos departing from Sidney, Australia towards Europe. We're asking people to be on the lookout for a large mass of kangaroos, but more importantly we believe Buddy may be with them. The APWA appears quite devious as today I woke up with a weird set of circles in my front yard, looked like crop circles but on a smaller scale.

We're all desperate to at least hear from Buddy. This is important to us, not so much for our art project as it is to know that Buddy's ok and going to be ok. I'll update again tomorrow I hope.

I'm guessing we should be getting busy looking for signs of buddy and those kangaroos...

My friends and I play that game, but we call it "Werewolves of Miller's Hollow". There's an "official" version with cards and stuff. It's tons o' fun. Sorry I didn't have any pictures from our last game night to send in.
