Friends, Beacons, crusaders, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Shadows, not to praise them.
The Ho-Hos that men eat live after them;
The Twinkies are oft lost for great justice;
So let it be with Shadows. The noble Beacons
Hath told you the Shadows were totally lame:
If it were so, it was absolutely true,
And grievously hath the Darkness answer'd it.
Here, under leave of the Light and the rest -
For Beacons are all honourable people;
So are they all, all honourable indeed -
Come I to speak in Shadow's funeral.
They were no friends of mine, stupid and lame:
But the Light says he was totally sucky;
And Beacons are always totally right.
They hath brought many captive Twinkies home to uF,
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill:
What the crap, man? What gives?
When that the Twinkie-less have cried, the Shadows cheered:
How totally lame are they? Seriously?
Yet the Light says the Shadows are festering piles of pus;
And Beacons are always spot-on with that sort of stuff.
You all did see that on the evocation
We Beacons fought for our place in N&R;
Did a single Shadow stray from their Ho-Hos to stand?
And the Light says they are sweaty, gross old men;
And, sure, they are wiser than any of us.
I speak not to simply poke fun at the Shadows,
But completely obliterate their standing.
You all did love Ho-Hos once, even though they suck;
I mean, come on. They're disgusting. But hark,
O judgment! thou art fled to kill all Shadows,
And men who have lost their reason. Bear with me;
The Light still stands strong, united under white cake,
And forever here it shall remain...

I consider getting moved to 'Various and Sundry' MUCH worse.

We, as moderators and admins, attempt to facilitate discussion of ARGs. That is our only goal. That is why we sticky things and move things and unsticky things and create subforums. You'll notice that I did not lock the thread; I didn't ever say that the thread was worthless; I simply said that its proper place was not in N&R.

Yet another attempt to marginalize and divide the community.

Saying that we are attempting to marginalize and divide the community is pretty unfair; that is the opposite of our goal.

It's possible that some threads have made it out of this particular purgatory and gone on to bigger and better things, but I'd bet my last Twinkie that no thread with 555 posts has ever been placed here. In fact, can a thread with 555 posts, a trailhead w/ over 100 signups, a wiki and a clear purpose (not to mention three topics) really be called sundry? It certainly doesn't fit as being "Various."

In fact, isn't the success of this thread the real issue?

No. In fact, there isn't an issue. The fact is that this thread is no longer about the upcoming game. This thread is about pastries. The PM himself has said--publicly and in private PMs to me--that he hopes that a new thread is started when the game officially launches. In other words, this thread's purpose is entirely dedicated to the discussion of pastries.

Pastries =/= news. Pastries =/= rumors. Pastries = various.

N&R is not the main forum here (there is no main forum), and being put in V&S is not a demotion. It simply means that this topic is no longer about news or rumors, but rather that it is about pastries.

pancito wrote:
Point me at that 38 page thread in V&S.

I can't, because I cannot find a precedent for a 38-page thread about pastries. However, threads that go quite off-topic generally get moved to V&S. It's not an insult; it's a matter of organization and (honestly) helping players find what they're looking for.

And now, for some of your own words:

There's a trailhead? Shocked Shocked

---

The long and the short of it is this: I have reviewed the entire thread and have spoken with two administrators (ScarpeGrosse and SpaceBass). This thread will remain open for discussion in V&S; when the game launches, a new thread can be started in N&R for the purpose of discussing the game.

Now don't everyone throw twinkies at me but I agree. Not that the pastry war hasn't been fun but c'mon guys, it doesn't really belong in N&R. We had a trailhead and while waiting for the game to start we drove our fluffy sugar coated car off the bridge into random lake. I like it though, I think it shows that we will be a good team when the game is ready. But we should definitely start a new thread and show this game the respect it deserves when it starts. We can always keep the twinkie ho-ho love alive in this thread, wherever it may be moved.

EDIT: Resolved. PM me if you really need to know.

@Jain. Sure, start the trailhead. I'll get flamed if I do it.

I just meant when the game starts it would be nice to have a shorter, more organized thread only about the game. But I see your point about recruiting, I didn't really think of that before.

When you made the move I asked what your criteria were. You still haven't made that very clear to me or the Pastry Wars gang.

The criteria is that this topic no longer has anything to do with the game, or any game, really. I had quite a bit of trouble finding the ARG in this thread, mostly because 95% of the posts in this thread are non-game related. I can imagine that a new player, eager to join this game, would have a lot of trouble joining in due to the high amount of non-game material in the topic. A large pre-launch thread tends to actually turn new players off from joining a game. People just don't have time to read through 30 pages of pastry to decide whether they want to play an ARG that has not begun yet. (I know that I, personally, didn't read through this thread entirely until recently because it was so vast and I didn't think that I had time to catch up.)

pancito wrote:
So we can't put up a non-pastry related Trailhead thread? You seem to imply this.

Please do; I believe that this game, when it begins, will need one (if not many more) thread(s) for discussion. If you would like to start one now for the discussion of the game, you are more than welcome to. Smile

Feel free to continue to use this thread to have fun.

pancito wrote:
My take, and I know I'm a bit extreme... This is ultimately about the ARG. It became something else, but is still doing the job that trailhead threads are supposed to do, i.e. recruit new members.

Trailhead threads are for the discussion of the game--many games only have one thread and those threads are used for the game discussion. (Fortunately, it looks like you guys are in for a grand-scale ARG that'll probably require a lot more discussion room than that!)

Trailhead topics don't recruit new members; good ARGs recruit new members. And based on this PM's previous efforts, I'm sure that this ARG will be an incredibly fun, high-quality experience. Smile

You Might Be An ARG Addict If...

You spent a solid three or four minutes trying to read that little flash of text in the Twinky Gun video thinking that it might have been a clue.

Pancito, I really think Redkidk is right on this one.

This is not about recruitment, and we all know that. This is a couple of guys just having fun by arguing about Twinkies and Hohos. I honestly expected the move a lot sooner than it happened simply because there is no ARG here.

Now, if someone were to start a PASTRY WARS ARG.. well, then I would say that this thread might be moved back to N&R. Until then, though, Various and Sundry is where this thread belongs.

@Albany Oh, I know that. I just want a consistent set of rules applied, and I want to know what they are. I do now, so I'm fine. Yet this thread IS doing the job of recruitment, and in a lot friendlier way than blackmail. And I DO think recruitment is a genuine use of N&R. What we are quibbling about is how efficient it is. (90% of posts...)

And if you want an ARG... Look here. But we'll have to start a new thread if we want it on N&R, because I've already violated the TOS several times... Very Happy

I won't quibble ... much. This is obviously not true. How many times have we read, before a game officially started, "Looks interesting. I'm in." If you have only a trailhead, the quality of the ARG itself has no impact on the recruitment. It is the discussion on the trailhead threads that does that. I think you are confusing intent and use here as far as trailheads are concerned. The intent of the bicycle was to provide a cheap, efficient human powered mode of transportation. Exercise was not the intent, but is clearly a use. Use, or purpose, is something that evolves... I'll start that thread when I get home from work unless someone wants to beat me to it.

Haha. I giggled.

If you're going to develop this into an actual game, silly or not, I'll definitely play.
