Something just occurred to me. The Doctor has only said that our consequence for failure is the girl dying within the two week time period of the experiment.

It is going to suck immensely if, after working hard over the two week period and succeeding at every task, he kills this girl anyway rather than letting her go.

For me, it works better to think only about saving her because acting out of fear may not facilitate making good choices. People who have a conscience generally don't abduct someone, drug her, and threaten to kill her. So, while I'm not buying everything the doc is selling, I have to move ahead as if I do.
