Invisible ink trailheads?!

I just ran across the link to this from Life Hacker (http://lifehacker.com/384304/fill-a-used-print-cartridge-with-invisible-ink):

http://www.instructables.com/id/Invisible-Printer-Ink/

It's instructions on how to fill an old ink cartridge with invisible ink. Sure it requires a few odds and ends you may not have around the house (like a syringe) but the instant I saw it, I thought how it would be a great new way to bring clues into ARGs. Maybe a letter (with visible ink) and hints at using a black light on it to reveal the *real* message. Anyway, just thought I'd throw it out there. Hopefully this is the right place to post this...

Yeah, it's been done. I'm not sure what ARGs have done it, but I've heard it being discussed before. You can buy a pen or something that does it. That may be easier than rigging your printer, but not as neat and tidy. Either way, yes, very cool mechanism to use in a game.

One of the comments on the site with instructions mentioned how one advantage to being able to print it out instead of just using the invisible ink pen is that you don't get the indentations so it's not obvious that a pen with "no ink" was writing on the paper. Anyway, just throwing it out there!

Don't they sell invisible ink pens in novelty stores?

Not that I can even think of the nearest novelty store... Where's Barefoot Mailman when you need it?

The types of invisible ink pen that I've seen tended to be felt tip-style, that wouldn't leave that kind of indentation.

Anyway, on the subject of invisible ink being used in a game, it was used on one Perplex City card that I can recall offhand.

I have actually just obtained a UV ink printer and a big bottle of ink. My friends used it for a puzzle and it worked beautifully!!! It is a super elegant way of hiding information and the effect is superb! Smile
