I, quite frankly, am surprised Toasty actually posts in English most of the time. I would have thought that Atbash is his first language.

As a Mac user I have gotten used to it. If I want to watch an IG video I usually have to download it, convert it online, then re-download it. It makes watching a 5 minute video about an hour and a half long process (if the quality is high). A pain, but worth it to keep playing.

And Rowan, I didn't think he was ruling ELizabeth out. I thought he was saying that Elizabeth was one of the culprits and we still have to figure out who her accomplice was.

You know, you can just use VLC (videolan.org) or install Perian (http://perian.org/) if you prefer to use the native QuickTime. Seriously, between those two, there has been NOTHING that I couldn't play. Even weird cell phone 3gpp video, DivX, and the like.

Cool thanks. I've been using this Media Convert website but that sounds like it will be a lot easier.

The REAL Solution
Not that fake kind...

I just realized, I never got around to revealing who done it!

The two culprits were Elizabeth and Nate. One of the clues separating Nate from the rest was a subtlety in the dialogue:
Ransom Letter wrote:
Contact the police, and the processor specs will be mailed to every chip designer in the U.S., understood? You're a reasonable man, Eric, and I have a reasonable request: $50,000. I will tell you where to deposit the money in one week. Until then, be a good boy.

Later in Eric's description of Nate...
Eric wrote:
I recently hired Nate to train under Michael's management. Kid shows some real potential. He's inexperienced, but he's picking it up. My biggest problem with Nate is that he's a perfectionist. Being a perfectionist isn't so bad when it comes to his work, but Nate takes everything too seriously. Everything needs to be just right for him. Kid needs to loosen up a bit.

The tiny clue here was that Eric had been talking down to Nate, calling him "kid" and constantly referencing Nate's lack of experience in the workplace. I intended to portray Nate as the kind of guy where everything needs to go his way, but I didn't mention anything about Nate's disliking of being talked down to. I think giving Nate a short temper might have helped with his character. This was what I was referring to when I said I hadn't given enough information to make a positive identification of the thief.

The second clue was also not that apparent: Nate was hired to work under Michael's direct management. This was included to imply that Nate had more access to Michael's things than anyone else would have. For that matter, Nate may have very well been allowed to work on Michael's computer for one project or another, where he could have easily acquired the password using a key logger or whatever (or, maybe Michael trusted Nate enough to tell him the password without considering the ramifications).

Nate included Elizabeth in the operation for the sole purpose of feeding her to the sharks. He created the dubious information on the jump-drive with the idea of planting it near Jonathan's office, but ended up misplacing it (could have been in a hurry at the time). Nate was also responsible for whiting out Jonathan's timecard and placing it on Elizabeth's desk in order to make it appear as though Elizabeth had checked out early that day. Nate intended the missing timecard to double as evidence against Jonathan, making it look like Jonathan was trying to hide his hours. In the worst case, the timecard would be identified as Jonathan's. However, because it's still whited out and on Elizabeth's desk, suddenly Elizabeth looks like the guilty party. Either way, Nate is never hinted at as the culprit. Dumping a copy of the CPU designs in Jonathan's waste basket was also Nate's doing.

As another diversion, Nate conducted most of his interactions with Elizabeth through Michael's computer. Though Nate shredded all of his log files, he hoped that the strange activity and the existence of a file shredder on the computer would point blame at Michael.

That was the idea, anyway. Couple flaws in my logic, and evidence is incomplete. Still, I learned a lot!

Once again, thanks to everyone who participated and contributed criticism!

Yeah, I wouldn't have gotten that far with the logic. We definitely needed more information. That's what the experiments are for! Keep up the good work Omega! This is fun and very helpful, even if just for you. As a result, I look forward to playing whatever you put out.

I think this is a case where Nate covered his tracks too well (for a fictional puzzle we're supposed to be able to solve). Since he pretty much tampered with every piece of evidence we have, the only real connection to Nate is the attitude, which as you said wasn't really developed.
