And Cthulhu. And Voltron.

Oh my there are definitely multiple monsters in Cloverfield, I counted 47 in the first thirty minutes...give me break. There is ONE. And a few parasites too.
Common sense is not that common.

why do people automatically assume that cloverfield has ANYTHING
to do with some f***ing s**ty monster called Cthulhu.
CLOVERFIELD HAD NOTHING...I MEAN NOTHING TO DO WITH Cthulhu
was cthulhu seen in the cloverfield teaser?..NO..
was it seen in the actual trailer?...NO..
so when has cthulhu been in this whole ARG?....
NEVER!!!!
thats what..
NO ONE LIKES THE CRAP MONSTER...
IF IT WAS IN A MOVIE,IT WOULDN'T BE ONE KNOWN TO MAN!!!..
IT'D BE ONE OF THOSE CHEAP ASS STRAIGHT TO VIDEO CRAP THINGS.
THIS IS A UNIQUE MONSTER..NEVER SEEN BEFORE..NEVER EVEN HEARD OF..
so please stop the f**king cthulhu comparisons,it's pathetic.
back in topic.. i agree there could be multiple monsters..but as already pointed out..ITS JUST 1 MONSTER TEARING NEW YORK A NEW ASSHOLE..
could its "parent" be the one in the pictures being blown to s**t?..perhaps.
we wont know until the final manga comes out, maybe it'll answer all our questions.. maybe it'll open the door to new possibilities and keep us guessing for the next 12 months. we don't know..
all i wanna know is, WHAT THE F**K IS THE CLOVERFIELD MONSTER? (is there an actual name for MGP's, WHY IT CHEWED CHUAI STATION, AND IS THE BLOODY THING DEAD?...

OK I am finally going to say something. THERE ARE NO MULTIPLE MONSTERS! End of story. I usually don't flame people but, this has been discussed numerous (plethora, multitude, buttload) times. Until the J.J. camp confirms there are more than one monster, it is NOT so.

I think the parasites fall in the category as 'Monsters'.

It appears we have someone here who has never read the masterful works of H.P. Lovecraft... and who obviously did not follow this entire thing from the beginning.... and who doesn't understand a joke.

All your assumptions are based on the false premise that Cthulhu wants to be seen! He doesn't have to stand around waving "Hey! Look at me! BOO!"; he could be in a basement in Newark and still instill fear and dementia all over the Tri-State Area!
I'a Cthulhu! I'a Dagon!
Carry on...

The simple answers:
1) During production, they imagined it to be a juvenile beast from the bottom of the ocean that woke up after thousands of years and is a bit cranky. That's all they ever said. As far as in movie, nobody had a clue. It's not like our characters ever got to be in a lab with scientists. They were too busy trying not to die.
2) Clover is what the filmmakers called it during production. No one in the movie ever named it (see answer #1).
3) The PMs never gave a reason, but one could assume that Clover took it out as part of his "woke up on the wrong side of the thermal vent" rampage. Chuai is never mentioned in the movie.
4) Get used to disappointment For obvious reasons, they aren't going to say, but the message from the end credits may provide a clue. Remember, even King Kong and Godzilla came back from obvious death and we don't have anything of the sort with Clover.
The story of the movie wasn't about Clover, it was about the "normal" people caught in a horrific situation that just happened to be a monster attack. The questions you ask would be stuff we'd get in the course of a movie about a monster. However, in this frame of reference there's no good way to answer them. It's never stated in the ARG that any one knew of Clover's existence prior to NYC, and if they did they weren't saying anything publicly. That really restricts the ability to answer the "why" and "what" questions without defeating the point of view of the story.
