[SOLVED] DreadHouse mainpage - 08/07/2004

This was posted at the end of a long thread in General, I figured it was more appropriate here.

Visit the main page of DreadHouse and you'll see a message shown very briefly. I have uploaded here a copy of the source, and I disabled the refresh command, so you can see it as long as you'd like...

EDIT: Actually, Gibberx uploaded this file into General, it's probably more helpful than mine:

Anyway to post the colorized version or a simplified source code version here in the forum (to make it easier to solve)??

my initial SPEC is that this is similar to the gone.html puzzle - we have bits of characters contained in different font tags. Only two types of tags are used...

I haven't double check this, but here's the count of the runs of letters:
51132116216111
15211221131611121
21356111112142312

[Edited - no need to spoiler raw data]

changing the letters to 0 and 1, here is my contribution (depending on if you start with 0 or 1):

0000010111001101000000110111111010
1000001101001100101110111111010110
1101110000011111101010110111100111011

or

1111101000110010111111001000000101
0111110010110011010001000000101001
0010001111100000010101001000011000100

actually, that list was a little off...

511322116216111
152112221131611121
21356111112142312

Also note that, in line 1, the first number "5" represents a run of one color of letters... but line 2 (and 3) starts with the other color...

SPEC: this leads to another page on the dreadhouse server with another piece of evidence - maybe another memo (with a password encoded) that helps us figure out the password in the first memo???

Current chat spec is that we might need an anagram of one of the colors, or binary pattern.
So don't we need html or htm?

Just for ease of seeing the differences. Here's the colours changed.

Just some spec....

Using the string length - 1 method of decoding numbers, I get:
400211050105000
041001110020500010
10245000001031201

I noticed that there are way too many 0's for my taste. Here's a run down of the overall frequence of each number:
0:26
1:12
2:4
3:4
4:3
5:4
This probably indicates something, but I have no idea what. Maybe we should be looking at even/odd as binary?

Just checked, even/odd using even=0, odd=1 as binary doesn't look right. The string isn't the right length even.

The differences between this message and the ones used for in the Proof page:

Three lines, not two.
The addition of "again" at the end...with only the second "a" a different color.

So we need that second "a" or the rest of the word, "agin", if these are anagrams or locations in the lines?

Keeping in mind the way the last message was decoded, here are the numerical locations of the letters:

(counting the blue)

6 8,9,10 13,14 16 23,24 26,27,28,29,30,31 33
1 7,8 10 13,14 17 19,20,21 23,24,25 26,27,28 30 32,33
1,2 4,5,6 12,13,14,15,16,17 19 21 23,24 26,27,28,29 32,33,34 36,37

(counting the green)

1,2,3,4,5 7 11,12 15 17,18,19,20,21,22 25 32 34
2,3,4,5,6 9 11,12 15,16 18 22 29 31 34
3 7,8,9,10,11 18 20 22 25 30,31 35

Line lenghts:
Line 1: 34
Line 2: 34
Line 3: 37

I am definitely seeing a pattern. Exactly what, I don't know.

I tried using single letters as dots and double letters as dashes, everything else as spaces. Here's what I got:
.. --.. -. ...
. -..---.. . ...-.
-. .....-. - .-
Which would translate to something like: iznse?e?n?tn

I'm pretty sure it's garbage, but it's about the length we would expect.
