Considering how much we've seen about Jaime Lascano (Jaime Harlan) and Teddy Hanson, the apparent ties to Tagruato and Slusho's kaitei no mitsu, and the apparent military reaction to the monster by classifying much of what happened with it in NYC, I think there's a fair chance we could see more of the story from the eyes of Jaime and Teddy, and perhaps their friends. It's never really established who Charlie knows beyond apparently Rob and Hud, but he certainly seems like the sort of crazy guy Jaime might hang out with. Keep in mind that Marlena and Jaime lived together, and that Marlena was apparently not planning to stay at the party for long. I get the sense that there was another social subset there, and that perhaps Marlena only 'landed' with Rob, Hud, Jason, and Lily because Lily found her staggering in the street. The last we really see glimpses of the other partygoers is right before they run into the store and MGP makes his first pass down the street. From that point Charlie, Jen, Jaime, and possibly others like Clark (Mystery Asian Guy) had a different experience and were exposed to other information.

Imagine if that other group was trying to find Marlena, and managed to discover what happened to her at the triage. Consider if they managed to somehow cross paths with Teddy, possibly having eluded Tagruato as a stowaway on the tanker, and he knows more. Also think about them making it out of the city and encountering Lily, only to find out what happened to Marlena - and having pieces of the puzzle Lily doesn't.

Somehow I suspect - and in a way hope - that a sequel isn't too expository. A little mystery would keep it fun, and if this is to become a franchise it'll basically be needed.

A note about the military secrecy: Not everything the military makes classified is because it's some premeditated operation of their own. As an outgrowth of an overbearing protectiveness of the citizenry, many in military command like to keep secret things they feel might create fear and panic in the population. They also like to keep secret things they do not yet understand, in deference to potential exploitation of it for any means - even their own. That's the idea behind the early Alien franchise - the best way to deal with the Alien in the military industrial complex ("the company") is to capture it and subdue it - all at once stopping it's unchecked destruction and enabling them to capture it as a tool. MGP's parasites and associated 'infection' seemed to be of greatest concern to the military. Combine all of this with the desire of any military force to appear invincible and in total control and you've got an easy motivation to suppress many truths about the situation. You just have to wonder which of these came into strongest play with the military and why. All we do know is that the situation is still meant to be classified.

Sorry, I just don't like to be thin and vague, and I don't do 'sound bite' well. I like to be nicely detailed in such things. I can't stand people who IM me 1/3-1/2 a sentence at a time.

Of course, you could just say tl;dr.

i understand and agree with what everyone is talking about as far as military classification.

but i gotta raise the same point as we on the manga side of things have been firing back and forth. what in the hell can you really classify about a 350ft monster destroying/causing to be destroyed a huge part of one of the world's major cities?

in the manga, he's attacking tokyo. so we all wonder, why didn't the world know before NY? or, vice versa? (IMHO, it seems that they DID kind'f know. chuai station, and all that. cos the military was on that thing FAST. you don't just mobilize that much army presense in downtown manhattan that quickly)

people would be stupid and panicky even in they lived in colorado after the film's events. you can't really hide or classify something like that. unless you're saying that all the related information (what is it, why is it, etc.) is what's being classified.

I like it NYC5:
Half the movie chornicales our friends at the party, and the other half from a military man's POV. Throughout the movie their lines cross on the street, and maybe intreaction even. And then at the end they either escape or die together to tie it all together...Very nice.

The one issue I have is that, I wonder what the pitch will be to draw audiences in: "Everything you saw before, but with different people!!!" They're going to have to set it up in some form or fashion in a way that other questions are answered. It's as simple as that. Whether they follow those who survived, or the military, more answers will have to be provided for the sequel to have any real substance.
