USE THE DAMN SEARCH FUNCTION -- THAT'S WHY I JUMP DOWN YOUR THROAT. YOU DON'T USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION.

RESEARCH AND READ BEFORE JOINING TO DISCUSS. THERE IS ONE MONSTER

Not everyone has the same level of experience. We all have to learn one way or the other. Being mean only hurts the community as a whole.

I do hope you remember saying that when you're on the receiving end of a flame (and don't say you won't be...it happens to everyone).

seriously. there's no reason to scream at people and talk to them like they're idiots, unless they're actually BEING an idiot. asking a question or being new to a forum doesn't denote idiocy. you can't expect every single person who logs onto unfiction to pour through the entire contents of a subject before they dare to post. i realize the search function helps, and helps keep the forum cleaner, but you'll still get folks who get excited about their opinion or question and post it.

yelling at people and talking to them like they're sub-human, however, denotes the arrogant, assholism that 90% of internet "communities" are overflowing with.

We have this thing called a trout...
It's a nice, funny way to point out that something has already been discussed. You provide a link to the previous discussion, and preferably even a few of the keywords used to find it. You can also provide a link to the search function or at least to the tutorial about using Search. This is all meant to be a polite way to temper the unbridled enthusiasm of some newcomers. When done in such a proper fashion, it's very highly constructive and a pretty welcoming way to guide new members to our ways.

We have another standard at uF. It's the simplest reduction of the whole of the ToS and otherwise thought of as the key admonition to everyone here:

Play Nice.

Being rude and obnoxious is unconstructive. Disrupting threads with completely off topic jokes and pranks - especially repeatedly - is unconstructive.

You make this place what it is, in effect. I and other mods try to keep it within the spirit upon which unFiction was established.

This thread should've been trouted, and I said as much on page 1. Anyone who complained about this being a repeat of something already covered should've lived by the standard they are so brutally applying to the OP and done a search and trouted it. Simple as that. When you want to place blame, there's usually plenty to go around.
