HUMOR: AGP St. Patty's Day Celebration

Well....I e-mailed Ash Grove Park about their St. Patty's Day celebration. They claim that they're having a Colm Meaney lookalike contest, and I just had to have more info. Let's hope they reply to me. Razz

Quote:

I heard that you're having a Colm Meaney lookalike contest on Monday. I would be interested in participating as long as you can promise that there won't be any public humiliation like last year's Gabriel Byrne lookalike contest. I understand that the park went to a great deal of expense to have Arnold Schwarzenegger come to the celebration and re-enact the church fight scene from End of Days. You have to understand, though, that the movie really, REALLY sucked. Now all of my friends think that I in some way support the film. I haven't been able to live it down.

So, all I'm asking is that if I participate in the Colm Meaney lookalike contest that John Cusack and Nicolas Cage don't come out on stage and put a license plate that says "AZZKIKR" on a chain around my neck like it's a pendant. Con Air was almost as bad as End of Days. Please, try to celebrate good Irish acting this year. Have Daniel Day-Lewis come out and we'll do a scene from The Last of the Mohicans. That would rock. Just a suggestion.

Thanks!

My reply from Brent

Brent sent me this back:

Quote:

Scott,

Heh, thanks for your suggestion, but I think you may have our Leprechaun
Festival confused with the Total Humiliation-Palooza held annually at the
Palace of Depression in Vineland.

AGP's St. Patrick's Day Fest last year included the Kenneth Branagh Monologue
Comptetition. Sorry for the confusion, but I can assure your this year's
competition will be all fun, as it's attracting Trekkies from around the
country.

Hope to see you there!

Now I have to work up a response. Don't worry...I'll keep this thread alive all by myself if have to. Razz

My response to Brent....let's see what I get back

Here goes nothing:

Quote:

Brent,

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I looked at my ticket stub (I save all my tickets stubs. Except for the one from End of Days. That movie sucked, which I think I mentioned before) from last year and it shows that I was indeed at the Palace of Depression. That's what I get for driving with a "beer hat" on for three hours. I just thought that AGP had gotten a lot "darker" since my previous visit. I should have known something was up when I went looking for the Magic Carousel and instead found the "Hall of Self-Loathing". I would describe this attraction to you, but I think there are some things better left unsaid. Besides, just thinking about it gives me the jibblies.

I'm glad to know that your Colm Meaney lookalike contest is going to be all smiles and happiness. I would still like to enter, but I would like to know what the prize is. Last year at that Gabriel Byrne thing, the prize was a three hour looped videocassette of the "Crying Indian" commercial. Talk about a downer. Maybe you guys could give a prize that's kind of AGP themed. If you go the videotape route, maybe a three hour video of Digitalis doing the "hand jive". That would make me smile. Either way, I'm looking forward to the festivities.

And he writes back

Wow...I wonder how long I can keep him responding.

Quote:

Scott,

Well, glad I could help clear up your mental haze. Smile Now, don't quote me on
this, but I think the prize for the Colm Meaney lookalike contest will be an
autographed Michael Flatley CD. Mr. Meaney usually provides his own prizes for
these occasions, so I can't say for sure. As for the contest being all smiles
and happiness, I wouldn't exactly say that. Have you ever seen how Trekkies
react when they lose one of these things? Not a pretty sight.

The festivities on Monday should be great fun, if you're any indication.

As I toss one more at him

And the hits just keep on coming:

Quote:

Brent,

I understand what you mean about the Trekkies. I went to a Worf lookalike
contest one Christmas at Adventure Island in Tampa, FL. The theme was "What
if Santa got picked up on a DUI and Worf had to take his place?". Basically
you had to dress like Worf in a Santa costume and bring a bag of raw red
meat to hand out to all the good boys and girls. It was crap though. The
guy who won just took a turtle shell and tied it to his forehead with twine.
I mean, you could see the twine. It was bright orange. But, they gave him
the trophy because he also brought a bat'leth with him and kept looking
around and licking the blades. I dunno, I probably would have done the same
thing. I thought my Santa suit made from old medical waste disposal bags
would have brought the prize, too. Ah well, such is life. I think it's
cool that Mr. Meaney is providing his own prize though. Of course, with the
prize being an autographed Michael Flatley CD, I think some people might get
offended. The man HAS just been accused of "sexual misdeeds". Hopefully
Flatley himself won't be there. That could cause a problem. Well, as I
said before, thanks for the help and for your time.

PS: Thank you for the invitation to pet a goat at AGP. I think I may take
you up on that when I get there. Goats are soothing. They're also funny
because they eat weird things. They're like ostriches that way. Except, of
course, they're mammals.

if i might contribute

I'll joke vicariously through you:

Bono is Irish. I bet we can work him in somewhere.

You're welcome.

Thanks for posting this; it's great! Laughing

MORE SPAM!!

Well I hadn't gotten a response to my last e-mail, so I decided to try again.

Quote:

Brent,

Now that we have everything cleared up about the Colm Meaney lookalike contest, I was wondering what other activities are planned for Monday. I know that's not the only thing you're doing. I mean, it shouldn't take more than an hour to judge who has the perfect curly hair / red nose combination. Are you going to do other Irish themed things as well? I think a drunken U2 singalong might be fun. The only problem is that everyone would try to be Bono because he's the most openly Irish. I have a black snow cap though, so I could be Edge if you need someone to. Please just promise me that we won't have to sing "Lemon". That song was awful. Hey, maybe that should have been the theme song for End of Days. I know I keep bringing it up, but it really does suck. Have you seen that movie? If you have, I'm sorry that you'll never have those two hours back. If you haven't seen it, please do yourself a favor and run far away if someone suggests it to you. It was so bad that even Kevin Pollak couldn't save it, and he can usually make anything worth watching. Hopefully we'll get to play "Bobbing for Corned Beef and Cabbage" again this year. I just want you to make sure that the pot isn't still boiling like it was a couple of years ago. I remember that there was almost a major mishap. Let me know what you've got going on. Thanks!

PS: Are you going to be selling Guiness? I know it's just liquid bread...but it's pretty tasty too. Smile

Crazy Tasty

And he responds with:

Quote:

Scott,

We'll be open this next Monday, March 17th, from 10am to 7pm.

Special events of the day include:

-Free rides on The Banshee all day
-Green colored iced tea
-Four-leaf clover hunt
-Special music by Donegalx-press
-Leprechaun dunking booth
-Pot of Gold Scavenger Hunt
-Colm Meaney lookalike contest

As for the Colm Meaney contest, points will be given for costuming, too. Keep
that in mind if you're planning on entering.

There will be no alcoholic beverages sold, as we're a family park with no
liquor license. Also no bobbing for corned beef and cabbage contest. Again, I
think you may be confusing us with another of NJ's fine attractions.

As for End of Days, you'll be glad to hear I've never seen it. I'm not much of
a movie buff, myself. I'm more of a reader. I may go see Dreamcatcher though,
as I really like Stephen King.

Hope to see you at the park soon.
