Wow Ron handed us a big piece of help there!

How about we all keep a tally of the passwords we have already tried, so nobody tries the same one twice:

I don't think they need to go in spoiler tags, as log as they are not the right password Smile

Well.. worth a shot.

I've been trying the bar code numbers and variations (in spacing, etc)..

And I've really been trying to find hints on the TT website (since Ed designed it, and these are supposed to be his files.. well, who knows).

No luck yet.

Chances are pretty strong we have the password - it's probably in that damn memo. Why would the PMs give us two unrelated pieces like that unless the memo password opens these files?

I'm still thinking the subject has the key: Request After the Meeting.

I would have called it: Your Request. or Per Your Request. or Files You Requested. But that's just me.

I've been trying all kinds of combinations of name and date. For example I've been combining any of the following:

rmeyer
meyer
rm

followed by any of the following:

03
0314
031403
03142003
314
31403
3142003

no dice thus far...

EDIT: Karmajay kinda beat me to this, so I'm going to add an addendum to spec already posted...

Several of us have been talking in #uh and agree that it doesn't make a lot of sense that the password for this file should come from the memo. I'm not ruling it out as a possibility, but why would the two be linked?

1. The memo refers to diskettes/files from the IS department... the file given to us by Ron is entitled "webmaster tools" and was on a series of discs

2. The memo speaks of diskettes... Ron found CD's

3. Why would an administrative assistant be given webmaster tool files?

As Karmajay speculated, we're thinking it's just as likely that the password to this file is hidden in Ron's message to us on the webmastertoolsfile.html page...

~~I'm not quite sure about how ethical this is, but did anyone try to find and download some type of password cracker? I don't even know if there are any tools out there that are suited for this.~~

edit: Forget I even said that. That was dumb. My idea would take all the fun out of the game. Sorry Embarassed

reasons why i like the "memo" spec over the "website" spec:

1. he claims to not know the password
2. he doesnt know we have the memo
3. we have all pretty much agreed that there is a password on the memo, and that the PMs nudged us towards solving it
4. we have been practically SCREAMING for something to use the memo password on. now that we have something, people seem to want to run away from it.

just wanted to make a case for the other side is all.

Just a thought...

Maybe the old webmaster left this cd behind hoping someone would find it and crack the password. First of all, why would you put a password on a bunch of webmaster tools? Doesn't that seem a bit over the top? And if for some reason these tools were that important why would he leave them behind in a closet somewhere?

Could it be that there is something else on this cd? Maybe it was just titled "webmaster tools" so no one else in the company would suspect it. I have a feeling that we are going to find something a little more important than MS Frontpage on this disk.

Also, this seems sort of a weak connection, but is it possible that this cd uses the same sort of password creating convention as the memo?
