Ya, North America is definitely a possibility I think. the building in the top right corner of coffebeans pic looks more modern/American from what I can tell, and the width of the streets seem wide/normal, many "older" countries have skinnier roads (in my experience).

It's a good strategy to think it out like you're doing Night. Since we are at an impasse at the moment, I don't want to limit my own thinking. Yes, seven hours. Tick tock.

Well I agree that with the close up picture some of the graves look to be too close together to have an entire body buried beneath them. Is it possible it could be a memorial gravesite? Like, from the Civil War or something? I've been to a cemetery in Japan that was really tightly packed because they only buried the ashes. This could be something like that, but because the markers are the same military came into my mind.

I just had someone tell me that it looks just like Kerepesi in Budapest. I don't have access to Google Earth right now, anyone want to check?

locations so far on a google map
(doesn't seem to help though)

I thought plotting the known locations so far would help out, but nothing pops out at me.

Could it be this cemetery? The streets seem to match too well to be a coincidence. I'm still looking (my partner and I have been taking turns-- this was his find) but I thought I'd throw it out there.

ETA: No luck with Ask Metafilter yet.

Sorry guys, I havn't been able to help out on this one. You all have been working so hard. I have taken some time today looking for this particular landscape and at this time still no clue.

You guys rock Cool I have asked a few people if they have any thoughts and they are at a lose as well. I will keep trying.

If anyone wants me to look at something specific let me know. Other than that I will continue to research it.

For those that are discussing the size of the supposed graves... THIS is the La Almudena Cemetery in Madrid, Spain. The appearance of the grave markers looks very similar to what appears in the photo in question.

http://www.familyhistoryfiles.com/images/BaileyBaldwinDocs/HillsideCemeteryMap1.jpg It doesn't look like there's a circular road in there so I ruled it out. Still looking at Kerepesi on Google Earth, but the resolution isn't good when you zoom in there.

Just throwing in some ideas about the cemetery image. Something about that image screams France to me. Has far has famous cemeteries go the first thing that comes to mind are the old Jewish cemeteries in Germany and other countries, were the victims of the holocaust were buried , that would explain why the graves are so small since they were cremated the graves don't need to be very big. Thinking about what Esteed said about the Doctor maybe piking a cemetery close to the place were one of us lives ( he did ask for our location) , and since you haven't found it in America and it isn't England ( are you really that certain?) have you tried cemeteries in my country, Portugal ( the one next to Spain)? If I was the doctor and wanted to this a hard one that's what I would do. Sorry I can't help you out but I have to study and sorry if these are all red earrings

It's Issaquah, Washington (state)

Bronze, after looking for civil war cemeteries I started looking at Holocaust ones. So we're thinking along the same line.

Yes, sorry about that. I've been searching bex and cemetery (a long shot, I know) and forgot to check back here. Haven't had any luck but I don't want to get discouraged.
