Logging in as Googlebot

This has happened to me before, and i emailed unfiction about it, but I rebooted my computer and that seemed to solve it, but now it's happened again. I have been once again logged in as "Googlebot" automatically. I restarted to fix the problem but not before taking a screencapture just to make sure it wasn't the LSD I took earlier.

Anybody else ever experience this? By the way, he had 5 private messages lol.

This has happened a couple of times before, and we don't really know why (unless Space knows more than I do). It has to be something with sessions getting mixed up and you ending up with a Googlebot cookie or something...

We disabled bot-posting because of this, so you'll notice soon enough that you're not logged in as yourself. The best thing to do in such a situation (I think) would be to get rid of your Unfiction cookie(s) and try to log in again.

I could probably do this on purpose.
If you've got a user agent switcher, it's handy to spoof GoogleBot to get into sites that otherwise require registration. They often let GoogleBot right in to basically dope the search index with results from their site, then when you try to go there they hit you with the need to register (at the very least). If you've used this and forgotten, I could see where you'd show up as GoogleBot. I suppose it could also be an IP situation - if your current IP is the same as a past IP for GoogleBot it could do that, maybe even just close to the same IP.

I'll have to experiment with this and see how it comes to be.

Ok, it's getting annoying now. I'll be logged in as natas. then all of a sudden. Poof, I got to a different thread and I'm now googlebot. it's getting ridiculous. Any ideas or do I need to throw out my computer?

Apparently, the forums are unable to make the distinction.

EDIT: to display only the image I was talking about.

You know, I use so few acronyms that I had to look that one up? I'm barely using "IG." *shaking cane* And I was there before the Internet went public, sonny! (crotchety voice) Or should I say "I invented the Internet!" (SO not true, but almost as ridiculous as my actual statement. EDIT: I mean, I was there, as in I was in college, but the closest I got to the Internet was email and chat on the on-campus computer system. And I *did* touch both a first generation Apple computer. And a TRS-80 (known colloquially as "Trash-80"s for good reason. I cried when it ate my one page simple program.))

By the way, for other curmudgeons like me, who will probably never get to this forum, NSFW means Not Safe For Work.

I'm like the person who understands a lot more of the language than I use. I get IMO, IMHO, LOL, ROFLMAO, etc., but then someone who is acronym-savvy has to go and pull out one I've never heard before!!!

Oh, well, as in my last post in the administration forum, I learned something new today. TWO new things in fact. Why do I still feel like an ass (in the British sense)?

Do NOT feel the need to answer my RHETORICAL question. Unless you've got something extremely funny to say.

P.S. And nitefoll? I think natas was reading MY mail, too! natas, remember my threat to make all of the text in the TSR wiki pink? I think I'll make it puce (which I've always defined as "puke green") instead. No wait. First letter pink, second puce, pink, puce, pink, puce--it'll be like Aurora's dress in Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty! (Okay, yes I DO have a 5-year-old relation who is in love with Princess Aurora....)

I finally remembered to check this out.
It does seem that user agent alone can trip up the server and treat you as logged in as the bot. The bot however can't do anything to speak of, except look at the site.

Oh, and nataS - some people send really weird messages to GoogleBot. Wink

I wonder if it gets the same messages that I get in my private email account? You know, those offering to enlarge a body part that I do not actually, uh, what's the word I'm looking for...sport?--shall we say?

Although I have always wondered if I could shave my head, wear a, uh, prosthetic, shall we say, and manage to get a raise. I don't know if I could carry off the demeanor and voice, mind you.

But then, I don't think I could stand having to use the men's room. Did you know that in nearly every place that has both, the men's room is much more disgusting than the women's room? And yes, I *do* actually have first-hand experience in that. I'm a little absent-minded. Besides, at some gas stations, I've gotten desperate, and they've only got one toilet with a lockable door. Fortunately, I've never met anyone when I've made the mistake. Which surely means that God does indeed look out for the meek.

Sincerest apologies, folks.
Lately Firefox has been periodically stopping it's load midway through pulling up a page and saying it's "Done". Easy enough to spot when it's the forums not loading all the way, but that site was a whole other matter.
I changed it to just display just the image I was referencing.

Sorry.
