Soylent Green and Omega Man are awesome...I Am Legend is no where as good as The Omega Man.

The last truly great and original films to come out remotely recently that I can think of were "A History of Violence" and "The Matrix", but even those were based on graphic novels and not written solely for the purpose of making the films. I guess "The Departed" was the last film made that I can think of that was original unto itself and really great - but there again, that was basically a remake of a Japanese film...

Wow.

Cloverfield really is in a bit of a class by itself, eh?

Oh Euchre I liked you so much...but Im going to have to strongly disagree with you on two of those films. Both "A History of Violence" and "The Matrix"(really the entire triolgy) were downers. I did really enjoy "The Departed" though.

For a good film check out "Children of Men"

If you can (and I know it's a totally lame thing to say "oooo, I watch foreign movies" *raise pinky finger) see the original. New one doesn't have the same 'found footage' vibe, I'm sure it'll be at least pretty good, but it's a shot for shot remake so if you don't mind subtitles (and there isn't tons of talking) I'd have to assume the original is creepier. It actually got really under my skin. Maybe because of the unknown actors, felt more real. And the movie's a crazy ride. Easy to get lost in it, feel like it actually happened.

And I know for a fact that the ending of the new one doesn't have the freakish 'thing' at the end, or at least it looks a lot tamer. The ending is just seriously fuckin' scary if you're into the movie enough.

I'm also pissed that the trailer of the American version gives away the whole fucking movie. Avoid it if you haven't already seen it or good surprises will be ruined.

definitely worth seeing first. I watch horror movies all the time and this was the only one able to really freak me out in a LONG time.
