Hi everyone, this is my 1st time posting but i've been lurking for a while... (so sorry in advance if i make mistakes Confused )
.....
anyhow....my prediction is that its a Doritos campaign, which some have already mentioned. many of the clues spit out by the traingle weapon thingy point to a Triangle (bermuda triangle, triangle factory fire in NY, tripod, pyramids, Triangle park, etc).
a Doritos chip is the shape of...a Triangle.

After coming to that conclusion, i checked out the Doritos website, if you go to the Doritos website-in the Doritos Universe they created there's a blimp that has a sign that says something about a Quest beginning on May 12th, and to 'Join if you Dare'.

So I think its definitely a Doritos Ad..but whether its an ARG, or an online flash game of some kind i remains to be seen.

On the movie poster and in the trailer for the new film Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, there is a pyramid of some sort in the background. You can also see a good shot of this pyramid as the background image of the official website for the new movie. The pyramid looks to be Inca or Mayan. Also in the trailer there is a shot where Indiana Jones is laying flat on some sort of a circle with symbols on it. The symbols look like the same circle and symbols on the wall that you have to break down. Maybe this could be a movie related ARG. The Wikipedia article for the new movie talks about all sorts of other companies that they have teamed up with to advertise the new movie. Why not Frito-Lay/Doritos too? I guess we'll find out soon...Hopefully it's not just a clever way to launch the new Quest Doritos.

what are everyones predictions? ARG? commercial? online ad campaign? Jesus?

Definitely Jesus. I mean, think of the boost in sales...

"Doritos: the official snack chip of heaven, chosen by Jesus himself!"

On the IndieWIRE site that addlepated posted, the blurb on the right kind of tells us what's in store:

Quote:
THE QUEST holds many mysteries. You will find them well-protected.
Great rewards are possible for the clever, the keen and the fearless.
But be warned, the secrets of the triangle will not come easy.
Join if you dare. Many will try. One will succeed.

It sounds like it'll be a contest, and not so much an ARG. A puzzle trail at best. I'm guessing there will be prize money or a vacation involved; maybe they'll fly the winner out to the red carpet premiere of the new Indiana Jones movie, meet Harrison Ford or some such.

Here is the Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull poster.

The pyramid in the background appears to be Mayan, but the trailer references an Amazon tribe and implies Incan. The Crystal Skull legend is Incan as well, as is "El Dorado".

So who knows...

Seems pretty tight to start a tie-in (10 days). M&M's and Dr. Pepper had their stuff in stores weeks ago. Granted, Burger King is just starting theirs, but that's fast food and their tie-ins usually start right before opening and only last a few weeks at most.

I guess all we can do now is wait to 12? it seem to be pointless to try anything before the 12

My thoughts exactly. Its going to be a very short puzzle trail if they are going to pick a winner in time to fly them out to the red carpet premiere which usually occurs before the film premieres for the public.

If it is related, it would have to be a DVD tie in or something.

I just had a funny thought though... wouldn't it be hilarious if solving the puzzle required waiting in line for the ride at Disneyland so you could decode the symbols on the walls with that little card they give you?

It appears to be based off your computer clock.

But as to when the redirect site will go live? No.

damn good question, what time zone are we talkin about?

i'm starting to lean back towards the indiana jones tie in, although i had abandoned that hope earlier, if thats the case what is the prize? like everyone else said the turn around (10 days) is ridiculously tight, unless they are trying to hype it up with items from the movie itself.

an actual crystal skull up for grabs? wasn't there the mention that only one can win? and the amazon/myan/whatever temple points that direction.

The timer won't hit zero on the East Coast until 1:00am (EST) on 05/12/2008. So late Sunday night / early Monday morning.

It now seems the triangle above the day timer has lit up which makes it obvious that the day timer has reached zero
