<quote>Could it be that the Operator is trying to find Dana using her 'processes' and those processes are tracking where Dana could be ? Maybe the Operator cannot yet extend outside the US networks and she is looking at 'China' related stuff, which happens to be restaurants, hotels etc in the US... Just an idea.</quote>

*blink* Zedix, you may be on to something...

The site in Philly is on the outskirts of Chinatown (northwest of it) and *directly* across the street is The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC Bank) and several Thai restaurants...

I wonder if this is The Operator looking for China inside the United States. Smile

-- peccable, who thinks the sites might be phones near various things that are 'Chinese'?

Location: NY, NY

Just came back from the coordinates: 40.7520 -73.9819

which is 40th st @ 5th ave in Manhattan.

Which is also the New York Public Library.

But I didn't see anything of note. No signs, no kiosks, no one dressed in a bee costume. If there was anything inside I didn't check it out.

So maybe the physical locations aren't important (yet), maybe I just don't know what to look for, or maybe they're only important when mapped.

Maybe it's too much doom3

But any chance of playing connet the dots on a map of the u.s. with the points plotted out?

Could be a pentagram Twisted Evil (like i said, too much doom3)

-Cheers

The one in Chicago near the Sears Tower doesn't make sense with these theories. It's a buisness building, the tallest in the US, and While there are internet connections inside, there's not a WAP (unless there's a starbucks inside), not really a payphone (although I'm willing to bet there's ALWAYS a payphone near ANY urban corner), and as far as chinese restaurants go, I don't get that at all... I think it's tracking us...

I'm pretty sure theres a payphone somewhere in the Sears Tower, its got a little of everything.

Bah, the closes chord to me is in Lousy-anna. No geo-cacheing for me Sad

If these are payphones, then shouldn't their be a database of all the payphones for specific businesses somewhere? I mean, like wouldn't the bells keep a public list of all their payphones and locations? Then we can just start comparing the locations given and those in the location databases.

My bubble-bursting theory...

One of the points near here is 37.5036 -77.6281 . I know this location - I've been by there many times. It is an intersection with a stop light and only two stores - a WalMart and a Sam's Club.

That countdown timer counts down to 6:00 AM EDT on 8/24/04, right? 8/24 is a BIG Microsoft release day. Most big MS releases have been on 8/24.

Supposition? Representatives from Microsoft will be at those points (or the retail locations near them) at 6am on 8/24 to give away something. Possibly even an early release of Halo 2, or maybe a demo or something.

Now, I actually hope not. this is an interesting game, and I hope it continues and ends up being deeper than a simple marketing ploy.

Just looked at the Chicago locations all 5 locations have a Chinese resturant withing 2 blocks. The names are:
"Take a Seat Noodles and Rice"
"Yen's Chinese Cuisine" - 2 points near by
"Harry Caray's Resturant"
"Lai Lai Oriental Express"

Yeah, there's a Starbucks here in the lobby.

37.4289 -122.1426 & 37.4304 -122.1413

37.4304 -122.1413 -- Fountain in front of California
Avenue Train Station in Palo Alto
California. Had a look around, did
not see anything unusual, except a bag on an electrical
box containing 4 used skate board wheels, probably nothing.

37.4289 -122.1426 -- Very close to the above. At an
intersection close to a park.
Again I saw nothing out of the ordinary.

Update : The two locations are very, VERY close together. Can walk from one
to the other via an underground pedestrian undercrossing. I will investigate the
undercrossing this afternoon. I left work for 30 minutes to check these.

Update :

Maps :

id=transmit

in the HTML, all of the blocks with GPS points have the id labeled transmit perhaps this is a clue, or something to throw us off the track.

Code:
<DIV id=transmit style=... </DIV>

None of the LA sites are anywhere near Chinatown, though that doesn't mean they're not near Chinese-related things. One is in Koreatown. The Smithsonian, etc. don't seem to be Chinese-related, and LA's Chinatown would be one of the most distinctive, if that's what they were after.

"axons go hot" could be the same thing as
"pathways of information are accessed"

which would support the phone theory.
has anyone figured out why there's none in texas yet?

Could it be Melissa's processes transmitting back their locations to her?
