EMAIL SAM: looking to connect?

Hi all! I just got this email from our friend Sam Greene. I would be interested to know what your thoughts and ideas were for an answer. I plan to say yes, but want to see if I can deepen the conection.

Kristi:
Hey, after all these years!
No, sorry, your name doesn't ring any bells with me. But if you're looking for someone to show you around the area, I could be available. Just give me a few days until all this commotion around here blows over and send me an e-mail if you are interested.

I went to school with someone by that name and, well, I was hoping it might have been you. You see, we were pretty good friends and I have really missed him. God, if you are not him, I am so sorry!

You should have picked a more generic name, like Lauren Johnson or Sarah Richards, or something. The kind of name everyone thinks they've heard before.

Perhaps, though if he had wanted to know me, he would have. Smile

Nope, I do not. Besides, it would be hard for him to show me around a fictional town. I sent an email asking if he wanted to get together at this wild place I had heard of by the name of Empty Threats. I will let you know what he says.

Ok, now what?

Here is what I sent him in reply to his email:

Yes! Let's do lunch ... or perhaps you would prefer to get together for drinks? A colleague mentioned this wild place called Empty Threats in Hackensack. Do you like jazz? I hear there is a great trio playing there on the 13th. Or it looks like they are having a dance contest on saturday. It has been a year since I last salsa'd (is that a word?), but I would certainly give it a go if you were up for it.

I don't know about you, but I really could use a night out. Since I moved here, it seems all I do is work, eat and sleep. I took my position over from someone who really should have been let go a long time ago and it seems as if every day brings a new problem. From your message, I take it that you are also 'in the middle of it' as they say. I am guessing it has to do with that accident outside of Aglaura? I hear that it was very bad.

Ah! Enough of the doom and gloom talk. I look forward to meeting you. Perhaps you can show me all the best local hang outs.

Yours,

Kristi

Sam's response

Here is what Sam just sent me this morning. I am sure it is a brush off, re: the getting together (for obvious reasons), but I wonder if we can turn it into a contact? Any advice or creative ideas would be appreciated! Laughing

Hi Kristi:
I have to admit, I was really surprised that you actually got back to me. You see, sometimes I think I'm a little clumsy communicating with women and I thought for sure after I sent that e-mail with that stupid "Hey if you need someone to show you around" line in it, I'd never hear from you again. So thanks for getting back to me.

Just to let you know, I don't drink but I sure can dance. Yeah, like Elaine on Seinfeld. I think what ever rhythm I may have been born with faded into nothing after my mother made spend three weeks dancing with her every night trying to teach me how to dance for my first junior high school dance. Talk about emasculating! I think my therapist should send my mother a card with a note saying "Thanks for the job security." lol
By the way, what kind of name is "Empty Threats" for a bar? Sounds kind of dangerous, doesn't it? I do like just about any form of music (except rap of course. Hey, do you know why it's called "rap"? The "c" is silent.)

Sorry for the bad jokes. I think I'm really just trying to relieve my nerves
because of what's going on around here. I'm running the technical end of this big press conference for the twon today (big for around here anyway) and I'm under a lot of pressure. Plus, everything else going on. I'll just say you picked a very interesting time to move into the area.

Anyway, I would like to meet with you but you need to give me just a little time. I really don't know what my schedule holds for next week yet or beyond but when I do, I'll be in touch.

Sam

There was an intermediary email from me to him, but I am not gonna bother posting it, as it really was just me chatting him up. Smile

Here is what I just got and my prior email to him is at the bottom:

Kristi:
No, I am not upset with you at all. I'm sorry if I gave you that impression.
And no, you were not too forward. I really have been just verwhelmingly busy.

Things continue to get crazier around here, though. The Mayor and his crew are watching me, well, actually everyone around here, more closely than ever. I've had to be really careful about contacting anyone. I promise you, when things do mellow out a bit, we will set a date to meet in person. I am not involved with the people you mentioned at all and didn't really know much about them except as the contractors of the new Library building until the press conference and it's aftermath. But, no, they are not the type of people I would hang around with. There is something strange and potentially dangerous going on around here though. I'm trying to help out a friend who's been through some very tough times recently and the circumstances surrounding the events just keep getting weirder and weirder. So I'm sorry if I seem jumpy or nervous, that's probably why.

I do hope to spend some time talking to you more soon.

Sam

I do not know why I am writing this, other than the fact that it has already been a long day here at work and it is only 9:30! I know you said you were having a difficult time, that you were busy and that you did not have time to go out. I just hope that you are doing well and that you are being careful.

You are not involved with those Marzone brothers, are you? Is that why you did not want to go to Empty Threats? (I did a search on them after the radio show ended and learned they own the restaurant.)
