EMAIL/META: Letter to CTW

Hello I am posting here at the forum for the first time. I thought, that perhaps I am not the only one who is a little confused at this point in the game. Below is a letter I sent to CTW Match 14 2003, explaining why. Parhaps one of you may be able to answer the questions as well? Please know I have read the tutorials and the "how too's" if you will. My questions are comming from my instintcs on which direction to follow. Not on a how to play this type of game. PLease note they are specific. However none of the anwers I have received are even slightly specific. Please read and respond if you will.
Thank you

"Dear CTW

I would like to clear up a couple things if I may. You see, a friend and I have enjoyed your game from the launch. However there are a couple of things we are always trying to debate. We find that these debates take away from actually enjoying the game. We have decided to write and ask you a few questionsin an effort to clear up some of the doubts we both share.
What we would like to know is
1. What level, if any, is reality involved with this game?

you see there are happenings that have occured in the story line that would make it impossible for this to have any part in reality. .... To have been committed or institutionalized for stating something bizzare.

2. If we are to "solve" any part of this it would take others involvement to obtain clues and solutions.

After writting many letters to many different people I can honestly say that none of the specific questions we have ask about have even slightly been answered.

3. I should explain first that I have been a reporter for several years. According to what we have read in the soty line, there is an unfolding saga that has quite a few unexplained happenings. Based on the theory that all things are based on cause and effect... and centered around an initial event, we have tried to make sence out of what has happened here. I assure you we take it seriously and sinicysm isnt to frame our missunderstanding. We simply do not understand how we are to go about the understanding of this chain of events. I have followed many stories in my career and they all, I emphasize all, follow a template of initial happening and cause and effect, leading through even the most tangeled webs to a solotiion or conclusion. However wilth all due respect there is no pattern to follow and no tangeable way to gather information. There is little no to no reply when inquisition is made. Hard question is NEVER answered. or even addressed.

4. Have we read far too much into this game? perhaps taking a look at it on a less grande scale would be the key?

Again, with all due respect, this seems to be a few small idle clues that lead no where quickly. It raises many many questions that of which can not be quenched in the manners that have presented themselves.

5. Why is it that there is no news archive in this town?

Perhaps I have taken and entirely incorrect view of how to play this game. Based on what we have read. We have been trying to asses an initial event( base point) that started the chain of events. A reference point to say exacty what we know. A wish? No evidence. The Mob? No evidence. Mystic happening, no evedence. We are sure his is a wonderful story however at this point it is severely difficult to follow on a reality basis. Therefore, we ask, how much reality do we base it on? What chain of events are to be followed? A mystical theorectic "wish" or a horrible Mob Boss who is owed money. Perhaps the mob granted the wish in typical mobster form? Perhaps its too early to speculate. However, a theory based on initial even and clues will always allow for speculative reason. A theory to investigate. Perhaps we missed it along the way. If you could please explain if there is a problem with game and the players involved (or lack of involvement) I would appreciate it. However if it is just me being way to over investigatory, please feel free to say so. Please know that I am not trying to critisize your writting talents. I simply do not see a story line to follow as a means of resolve.

Thank you for your time. I know this letter is wordy...
warm regards

Leetta,

Welcome to Unfiction! Glad that you found us so that we can try to give you a better introduction to the game. Because of the nature of Alternate Reality Gaming, you are unlikely to receive a response directly from the PM (or creator of this game), so I thought I'd try to address the issues you raised.

CTW is an Alternate Reality Game. The name alone implies that this is not the sort of reality you're used to. The PM has created a world with its own rules, and has graciously invited us in. At what point we've become involved is still unclear. The game launched only two weeks ago, and we have yet to uncover all of the clues or events that led up to this point. The story appears to be unfolding in real time, so I'm confident that the longer we play, the more sense the story will make. BTW, I'm wondering if you have uncovered all of the clues that are available thus far. Have you read Dale's journal hidden on an in-game site? The journal answered some of my questions as to how Dale ended up in his current predicament. If you haven't read it, review some of the posts here on Unfiction telling you where to find it. If you've seen it, perhaps you want to read it again. It might make more sense now than it did when it was first made available to us.

I don't know what specific questions you've been asking, or to whom you've been directing them, as you haven't posted any of your letters to in-game characters on this board. If you're referring to letters you've written the PM, as I stated above, you are unlikely to get a response as the curtain has been closed now that the game has begun. (This is explained on the CTW website.)

Reporters often enter a story at its conclusion, or after a significant event transpires. I think you have to perhaps try to make sense of the game from a different perspective. Understand that the story is going to unfold over a six month period. At that point, all of your questions should have been answered. From a reporter's point-of-view, you're entering the picture a bit too early to get the whole story. As far as questions being answered that are specific to the story, the Aglaura press conference would have been an ideal arena for a reporter, such as yourself, to have stepped forward and participated. Did you apply to attend? I can't see your story-related question going unaswered in that forum.

The game, at this moment, is like an onion...it's multi-layered...and it seems that as more pieces are stripped away, more pieces are revealed. What I mean by that is the answers we are revealing are leading to more questions! Give it time. Keep at it. And don't be afraid to ask other players for help. I'd highly suggest you enter the CTW chat for more individualized assistance, or at least skim the CTW forum topics related to the questions you do have. We all realize that no one is going to solve this game on their own. Like in the real world, we need to rely upon each other as everyone will have an at least slightly different experience depending on what contacts they make and what information they receive.

I can't tell you why there is no news archive, but there is some news. We are being spoon fed news that the PM wants us to see. We have no choice but to accept that at the moment. Perhaps that's part of the story. It's just too early to tell. Keep spec'ing. I have faith that it will all be revealed. Think of it as a novel which will take six months to read because you are only being given a page or two at a time. The pages may be out of order, too, so it may not make sense until you get to the flashback scene. I'm just enjoying the story and not trying to form any solid theories until the missing evidence you alluded to has been unearthed.

Dia
