Theo's uninitiation mission

Just received this letter from Theo:

Quote:
You have shown great ability -- much sofia and thumos -- thus far in finding and decoding our messages.

I assume that you orchestrated the note for us in London. The Baconian cypher shows your depth of research. Francis Bacon was one of the greatest scholars of the multiverse, despite this Gaia world having little to no omphalos strength to support his studies.

To join The Opposition is simply a task of desynchronization. You must create a clear rift between yourselves who have wisely decided to join Us, and your other selves who have not. To do this, you must both do something extremely unusual from your normal day to day life. Something which would virtually guarantee the creation of an additional world. This act should be performed at a location where you would not ordinarily go.

To create the lowest possible probability that your alternate selves will not be performing this same act at the same time, you will not even think of the act yourself.

As partners in initiation, you must trust each other implicitly. While you will choose your own unlikely location, you must give to your partner the task of designing a simple, but highly improbable, action for you to do. Do not collaborate on this design, to avoid the chance of creating a task that is probable amongst your parallel selves.

Once your location is chosen, your partner will send you your task. This random combination will create maximum desynchronicity.

Email Us with a draft of your plans, and we will look it over. Once we have approved, the task will once again fall to you. Document your actions with video and/or photos, and send us a description for why you are very sure that your parallel selves will not have completed the same action.

Any allies of yours who would like to be initiated into the uninitiated are welcome to find a partner and pursue this mission as well.

This random assignment of actions and locations creates maximum branching and will makes this world, hopefully, even more of an outlier. Once we have proof that you are committed to this cause, we will share with you one of our most important discoveries this century as a sign of good faith.

Good luck.

I feel very nervous about actively working to desynchronize, even if it helps us infiltrate Theo and gain more knowledge that will help our Agonothetai. However, Ariock pointed out that doing a personal labyrinth may neutralize it. How many personal labs = one desynch?

I was hoping to email Ariadne with this information but it looks like she might be out of commission for a while... any suggestions? Do the other athletes know about this? They might be able to offer advice.

This photo of James was attached to the email. Looks like it was taken in SF, but with the letter from London:

Just reading over that . . . well. . . I think that any and all of us who have gone to pick up codex dead drops have been desynchronizing the Multiverse. Any of us who took up the lost sport and ran a labyrinth. Any of us who are first time ARG players- we're all desynchronizing by the explanation given in that e-mail.

I think I've found the building that this was taken from.

After sapagoo and momonga mentioned that PacBel Park was in the background, I had a look on Google Earth to see if there were any snaps of the area. Turned out there was... Smile

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Aww, I got all excited and thought we'd get to storm the castle and make James tell us where Markus, Eli, etc were! On the right side, you can see 'AKQA' which is one of the big names behind the ARG. Looks like the picture was probably just taken from outside their office.

incidentally, the photo appears to be a direct image from a camera.
Canon PowerShot SD750
taken 12 may at 14:45:16

have a look at the EXIF data for it for focal lengths etc etc doesn't seem to give any other useful info, though....

I'm thinking that maybe we can't all be double agents and work with Theo. Some of us need to stay loyal to Ariadne and some need to double....

I'm waiting to hear back from the athletes, but I think at least a few more people need to email and participate, if for no other reason than to ease Theo's suspicions. They'll definitely notice if they send out a photo to only one pair and suddenly everyone has access to the photo (as in this case).

I wrote about it over here, but Diego thinks we need to get parallel (good) James on our side, and help turn this James. I'm not sure how we can do that except by gaining his trust and having conversations with him. (Any thoughts? Does this topic deserve a new thread?)

Actually, I was thinking, maybe it's time for the return of Sektano on the message board. Maybe having him post some direct information knocking down the amnesiacs and directly referencing the messages that have been left for the true followers... that kind of thing... Something that could be posted in all the languages....

I'm hoping that me or khaos get a message soon.

what stops us from planing the desync on unforum away from TheO's rpying eyes.

also i think that getting more people openly pledge alegance to the amnesicastics. (errr. i cant spell!!), but i also think that these small amounts of desync can be reversed by the multitude of others syncing.

Finaly i dont think that anyone innvolved in a sync should applie to be a double agent. this is because if ur name or photo is needed to join and u dont want TheO doubting the agents.

I'm still double-agenting, but haven't gotten very far with James other than discovering the secret mission thing too.
I'll talk with AUZ and see what he wants to do for an 'unitiation' mission.

And I think you're right, Runeix-- but if photo or name is needed, we can simply provide a fake one. It's not very hard to doctor up a face in a simple photo editing program, and fake names are not a problem.

I've already pledged to Diego that I'm on his side, but I will just ask him to keep that quiet.

And I'll bring it up again...how do we know that TheO is the 'bad side'? Why should we trust the amnesiacs? Maybe this is just my Doubting Thumos (LOL Laughing), but I am not sure which side is which now.

It's getting really muddy, but I'm still thinking Thermanita and James in this world are the bad guys. When we have to start considering alternate world versions of these characters, I think we won't be able to keep anything sorted.

I'm not double-agenting, if that helps; I haven't come out and made a firm "I am against Theo" statement, but I'm also not e-mailing The O, etc. In fact, thebruce and I left a message at the location of the Toronto artifact saying something to the tune of "Theo, you don't scare us," so I guess if that counts I've basically declared myself anti-Theo.

As for how to keep the versions of James/etc. clear across the worlds, we could do like fans of Battlestar Galactica do with various copies of the Cylon models when they refer to "Caprica Six" and "Baltar's Six" and so on...use the name together with some descriptor that makes it clear which world's James we're discussing.

But I have! Wohoo go me! I'll go to war with TheO before I give up synchronization![/zealous]
