I did feel a bit sorry for him, but that was completely blown away when Marlena died. His final roars made my cry though Razz.

on the topic of the roar again , i agree that i liked the old roar better. I was so suprised that they didnt use it at least once in the movie. All the times you hear it in the teaser and in the trailer are gone too, like when they are hiding in the convienence store. It had a much eerier feel to it than the ones in the movie

Its so true, they added so much detail to him...

Even after the first time I saw Cloverfield, I felt so sorry for Clovey/MGP. I mean, what, he wakes up after thousands and thousands of years of sleeping (I'm going with the prod notes not manga), and destroys a oil rig and heads towards NYC, not knowing what hes going towards.
Gets there, is really confused so breaks the head off the statue of liberty and throws it, and destroys an oil tanker.
Then heads inland, starts chomping people up, obviously is confused as to what they are. Had bright lights all over him, and moves his tail and destroys a bridge.
Just walking around the city when he gets bombarded with bullets, rockets and fire, which is a pretty big shock and obviously stings. For the next 6 hours just gets completely hammered with bombs, and the final blow is a nuclear bomb (or 2?) and you can hear him scream in pain.

I just felt so sorry for this thing, it never actually did anything to us, except walk on our land. You can see during the film how confused he is, like in the part where they are going from Beths apartment building to the safer building, the second time that the camera turns to see the monster, you can see him turn his head back and scream at the bomb as to say "Fuck off! What'd I ever do to you?" and when they are running to the evacuation point, and he screams (and we see a clear shot of his face) he also turns around as if to say the same thing again. And the horrible screams when he gets hit by the nuclear bombs....

Is anyone else with me?

You hit the nail on the head. According to Abrams on the DVD, the intention was to create a lost and confused baby creature. I guess they could have named it HOME ALONE: SOMEONE ELSE IS LOST IN NEW YORK

To all that think that MGP rampaging NYC is the equivalent of a human stomping on some ants, when was the last time you stepped on an ant out of pure spite? Because thats what MGP did to Hud and in the very begining allbeit he was provoked alot of the time, ya know with the gun shots and what not, but considering how big MGP is he must have a miniscule brain to not realise, sea=good and safe, Land=Bad and not safe.

i agree with you save for ONE difference....

clover was an animal. animals don't do things out of spite, they do them out of instinct. like a cat killing a mouse, or swatting down a bug.
