I really think the evidence is pointing to Melissa trying to assimilate into some other entity and blend in with the rest of us. Evidence that I've found on the site and from reading the other boards points toward this:

It all points to her trying to create some physical creation of herself. Or at least something that could be construed as a physical creation, maybe a person that exists only on the internet and through voice communication.

She is trying to escape, but the only way she can't do so without getting some things done out here in society.

Sorry to butt in here, but I've got a slightly different take on these coords.

I think they should be taken in the pairs as they were displayed. I don't think the numbers were displayed side by side to save space for two reasons. The size of the page wouldn't change even if the numbers ran in a single column. Plus, why go to all the trouble of lining up the coords in pairs just to be read as single points?

Is it possible these aren't earth-based coords, but somewhere in space?

Note: the location in downtown DC found by keybsnbits is the entrance drive to the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum - with the cool dinosaurs and the Hope Diamond and stuff like that.

Potomac Mills - as gohoos said, the northern point in the Potomac Mills map is on a street, near a traffic light - parking lots on all sides; nearest stores are Walmart/Sams Club on one side (50+ yards away - big parking lots) and the main Potomac Mills mall building on the other side equally far away - not sure what stores are inside the closest entrance there. No phone, no library, no chinese restaurant.

The southern point there is in an area of small strip malls and chain restaurants outside the main mall complex - probably have to visit to see what's on that corner.

Guest, it's hard to say if you said that earlier, since YOU DON'T HAVE A NAME!!!! ok, beyond that...

Ok, so first of all, I like the idea that maybe the two coordinates side by side have a meaning... I don't know how that would mean anything about space, but why not compare two adjacent locations based on their coordinates and see what we come up with?

I'm going to stop lurking and make a few points -

Firstly, it's extremely unlikely that the co ordinates realte to people who have emailed the entity. The biggest reason being that ALL of the coordinates are located in the US. Americans aren't the only people in the world who have been following this 'game'.

Secondly, the Chinese restaurant connections. To begin with, several of the coordinates are near Thai/Korean/Japanese restaurants. You guys need to rememebr that these are completely different countries to China. Same continent, and that's about as far as the similararities go. They coords also have no pattern or logic behind the distance from these places - that just doesn't sound like it's a plausible explaination to me.

I don't have any theories as of yet, but it seems that the locations are significant rather than the patterns. Apart from the coordinate in the ocean, all are located on streets/buldings/etc. None are in lakes/forests/middle of nowhere. It's definitely possible that IF this is a Halo2 promo, that there will be Bungie reps at these points (as someone already mentioned).

I'm still mulling on all of this and will post again if I have any more ideas.

If you are talking to me, the reason I posted that in this topic is because I think it is relevant to solving the coordinates puzzle. The paradigm through which we exam these coordinates will ultimately determine what we see when we locate them. If people think the AI is looking for Dana, they're going to see chinese restaurants everywhere. If people think the AI is trying to assimilate itself and create a believable 21st century person, then they may start to notice some things that were not originally obvious to them.

What would an advance AI do when it found itself crash landed in THE PAST (I believe the Halo mythos take place in the future) and it believes its only way to escape is to go out and into society?

I'm thinking along the lines of Johnny 5 in Short Circuit. Or Spaceman. It needs to gather information so that it can complete it's mission (repairing itself and returning to its home).
