Okay sadly I have to go to work for a bit, I'm in the hallway outside the sitting room on the main floor. I have checked the main door (locked) and the main foyer and Recreation room.
Good Luck!

but if it isn't, can someone give me a basic synopsis of what's happened?
Sorry...

SPI- I believe you might be in the study....I'm right down the hall in the kitchen so I'll bang on the door tothe study in a minute to see if that's where you are

Elite-a basic rundown is we have all awoken in this crazyhouse...we were at first trapped in our rooms but by solving puzzles or due to the actions of other players we were released .... we've found a pool of blood and some cryptic clues (a few excerpts from alice in wonderland, a reference possibly to through the Looking glass, an excerpt from house of leaves, and a line from a spoken word piece)......Email landlord.theSPLATgmail.com and you'll be put on a list...if anybody bows out you'll get put in

Edit: Again I'm in the kitchen. I found normal kitchen stuffso I copped a steak knife just in case...but I also found a cookbook upon flipping through i got this:

Quote:
You carefully tuck the knife into your belt.

Opening the cookbook, you flip through the pages. Most of the text is worn out and faded, making it unreadable.

One page can still be partially read, but it's a mishmash of letters:

ujwmfux nyx ynrj yt lt ifshnsl

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
which rot-21's into "perhaps it's time to go dancing"...guess I'm headed to the ball room

I'm going to wait for some of us to gather before I move on

I'm in the library so I'll start looking for the kitchen as soon as possible or I can meet you in the ballroom. Your preference. I never did find where the key fits.

the kitchen is directly across the hall from the library....

I say we wait just a little while longer unless you're in a hurry

No, I can wait. I'll look around the library for a bit or something. Smile

I am in the study. There is a door in the far wall.

I looked on the table and found this:

Quote:
You easily remove a candle from one of the sconces. Surveying the room, you find a small card which reads:

"Welcome to the Study. Please enjoy your stay, the books are free for your perusal."

I sent him this reply:

Quote:
I sigh and make my way over to the tomes. I look at the titles, hoping one of them sounds vaguely helpful. (As in I won't pick up 'Modelling for Dummies').

Waiting for a response. There so far seems to be nothing out of the ordinary in the study, but I am still looking. I suspect pulling a book from the bookshelf will open the door or a door, a classic mechanism in studies. (At least where Scooby Doo is concerned.)

Edit:

I appreciate a PM with a sense of humour. Whoever this is, I want to hug him/her.

Quote:
Darn. "Modeling for Dummies" had been without readers for quite a long time.

You pass over quite a few tomes before pausing.
The Outsider by H. P. Lovecraft sits on a shelf all by its lonesome.

I know what I am reading!

From the library floor...
Quote:
There seems to be lots of old texts here. Many do not have labels on the spines.

There is one particularly old tome that reads Al Azif on the front.

Al Azif was the original name of the Necronomicon.

Quote:
When you open it you realize it is in a foreign language, possibly Arabic.

In the background you hear Hal call out that he thinks the group should investigate the ball room, and if anyone wants to come with him they can.

Ok, I'll join you.

I eye "Modelling for Dummies" a final time and pick up The Outsider by H.P. Lovecraft. Distracted from my dilemma, I flip the pages slowly.

I am Stephen by the way, in case he says my name. You said you would knock on the door to the study, right? Perhaps he'll mention that in his next reply. I'll edit this with his reply and my response.

Edit:

Quote:
The text begins, Wretched is he who looks back upon lone hours in vast and dismal chambers with brown hangings and maddening rows of antique books...

You pause as you begin to read, and note that there is writing in the margins.

My reply is:

Quote:
I adjust my glasses and peer at the writing in the margins, trying to make out whatever it says.

I figured 'why not, I will say I have glasses!'. Let's see if he allows it.

That's okay, there's so much happening in this game, I don't blame you! I just sent a message to try the key in the lock, so I guess we're waiting now to see if it works.

EDIT: Hooray! Door's unlocked!

Are you trying the key on the study, or on the ballroom door? (A bit confused).

Quote:
You adjust your glasses on your nose and squint. In scrawled black ink it reads,

Alas Retrospect Errs
Youth Once Ubiquitous
Must Avoid Dreaming

Quote:
You hear a knocking on the door.

I said:

Quote:
Keeping the book in my hand I move over to the door, pressing my ear against it.

'Hello? My name is Stephen and I'm locked in here - wait, let me try the door.'

I twist the door knob. (if there is one).

You should be able to come out now! Also, the first letters in that message spell out Are You Mad.
