A lot has happened since my last post which I can't talk about. Sorry to be so vague, but until I can figure out how to react and what to do next, vague is the new black. I don't know what to do and if I figure that out, if I can do it alone. Are my friends here even my friends?

Poor kid... it sucks suddenly feeling like you can't trust anyone around you...

The youtube vid of people around the office, have we discussed the atmosphere of people as they're being recorded.

Tee (girl in red) working on something "top secret" "for Nate"
Jean Paul, trying to hide from the camera

The boss getting angry about the camera,

Oh and the two women looking at the Ralf Schmerberg: Dirty Dishes art book.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=RJx7JuNKxR8

I think Noel mentions she has a blog but it's hidden.

Wow a lot happened while I was sleeping.

Some great discoveries, and some good reverse detective work too.

I'd been looking up the work of the three Digg links hoping to find a connection to the Holomove research. I was looking on the same lines as Syvia with the hallucinogens/seeing stars, I kept being reminded of Ray Kurzweils predictions. But I can't argue with the 102 connections! I wonder if there's more to these guys than just the 102s though.

My real point of posting is I was wondering about the chat people keep mentioning. Is there a specific room for this (and each) ARG? What are the hours? and I've looked at the chat link on the UF home page, will I not be able to use Firefox?

thanks

Alex: Did you see drizjr's find? http://www.youtube.com/user/ranknow contains one video- Nobelium. Nobelium is element 102 on the Periodic Table. This explains the Periodic Table-esque black & orange image, and the 102s.

Chat- the uF client doesn't seem to like FF. Try www.chat-solutions.org or an external client like mIRC or Icechat. Google them. Smile

Also, the specific room at chat-solutions for this ARG is #holomove

Each ARG generally does have its own room, although general chat happens at #unfiction

You need to make sure you post a link back to the original post, and most folks will use the trout emoticon too. You can type : trout : without the spaces to automatically insert it.

ETA
If this is the quote you are referring to:
Quote:
One more final thought... the packages some of you received contained a package from was was essentially orange juice with the logo stuck on top. Perhaps the compound is contaminating the orange juice or the drink package is the missing link between the company logo/molecule and the company needing a slow food chef.

I'd say that's not trout. I was pointing out the use of the orange in the video as a second orange reference, and there is no mention of that in your post, so no trout.

Dr. Gough: Okay, continuing our pre-alpha test. Um, sequence number 342. Oh, no no. This is test number 343. And, here are some notes on the setup. Uh, we're using the progressively phased Argon lasers with, uh, protoype 4 module, and the holo repro software is version 1.003.1705. And, uh, we're also using the electrostatic sonic field drivers with prototype 7 for the sonic driver module, and the reverse haptics driver is Version 0.41.509. Okay, ah, you ready AJ?

AJ: Yes.

Dr. Gough: Alright, goggles on.

AJ: Okay.

Dr. Gough: And, uh, turn on the holo repro system.

AJ: Yes Doctor. It's on.

Dr. Gough: It's on now, okay. Um, okay, it looks like it's in phase, ready to go! I'm reaching in.

AJ: Okay.

Dr: Gough: Hey! I can see it coming through, that's-that's good. That's good, just like we expected. And that's, uh, good. Now, I can flex my fingers, I can roll my hand. I can move side to side and pull back (AJ: Ooh!) and it's tracking pretty closely. That sounds good, okay. Um, time ot turn onn the reverse haptics generator system

AJ: Okay. Reverse haptic generator is on.

Dr. Gough: Okay, that's, ah, that took it a moment, but it's in sync now. Alright, now. Let's, let's give it a test here. I'm going to touch the orange and, uh, move it a little to the right, a little to left, a little toward me, and a little - a little away. Okay, that's good.

AJ: That's fine.

Dr. Gough: Good, that confirms it

Since I'm home now, a continuation... (made a couple of corrections above also)

Quote:
Gough: 31... 7 I think was the test number when we first saw this much, now, let's see if we can keep from slipping off it.

AJ: Okay.

Gough: I'm gonna try and lift it up, lift it up and it's coming, I think we got it! It's coming up this time! Hey hey hey!

[both laugh]

AJ: It's up!

Gough: I can see the [AJ: You got it!] thing underneath it!

AJ: Oh my God!

Gough: Oh, this is for the books, AJ! You sure the video's recording this?

AJ: Yeah we've got it.

Gough: Data, yeah?

AJ: Yes, data is on!

Gough: Okay! Alright, alright! Okay, now, let's see, I'm gonna try and turn my hand over so I'm actually gonna hold the orange in the palm of my hand and see...

[bad flashy things and electric buzzes]

[AJ screams]

Yeah, that was a rough one - hadn't gone back to correct it or make it look nice because I had to run out and catch my bus :X

P.S. I'll touch that one up, add their actions etc. for the people who can't see the video.

AJ: Oh God!

Here's the transcript in all it's touched up goodness....

Searching for reverse haptics on google, I found a page with reference to audio and visual data but it was gone, only available from cache,

Here is the text, if any use.

Quote:
Managed Haptics
Haptics: from ancient greek haptikos = to touch. Refers to the science of touch controlled machines.

Early this month, H3D API, the world's first X3D based haptic scene graph API for development of multi-sensory VR solutions, finished beta testing and moved to v1.0.

The openGL world has its haptic api...what would be the architecture of a C# haptic namespace?

First we need a hardware interface for spacial input. The primary one is SensAble Technologies' Open Haptics SDK for haptic rendering on the Phantom, an armitured digipen sort of looking thing, with an overly ominous sounding moniker.

Its available for Windows. I haven't purchased it but it seems to be integrated into MFC.

How feasible is a wrapper for managed extensions to the api? Once again, we are probably dealing with a case of hundreds of those pesky interfaces being handled in COM Interop.

Is it worth it?

For me I am interested in the other route. Reverse haptics. How can the machine touch you?

Using only color (visual) and frequency (audio) data, how are different stimuli mapped to the brain?

Haptics can be seen as touching/manipulating a virtual object with a real device.

I think, Reverse Haptics means touching/manipulating physical objects with a virtual device, like seen in the video. Because nobody is actually really working on such a technology there will be not many references found in literature (as long as it is not SF literature Wink)

is this something?

The website for the "Reach The Future" foundation. It's pretty new and... well doesn't seem right, have a look and see if there's something here or I'm just sleep deprived.

Reach the future is the advertising campaign slogan and is on the holomove homepage source text.
