You don't think this is a google ARG do you?

It seems like a coincidence that they are celebrating the first laser - on its 58th birthday? they couldnt wait 2 years? There are also the banner ads - dont google supply lots of sites with ads? can we check if these are google ads?

And google is a CA company with the muscle to pull a game like this off.

This laser talk also reminds me of the Lumen game I mentioned a lot of pages back. It is designed by the kid, Bridger Maxwell, who is linked from Nates blog.

You basically have to direct lasers through a series of blocks. I downloaded it and tried it, wondering if by completing it you might get a message or something. its not the sort of game you can complete though. its just loads of random levels, no progression or anything.

does anyone make anything of the slogans from the banners? or do we think they are just meant to get people to check holomove?

Okay, not to point any fingers here. But Sean who posted for the firs time with his find about the ads, his/your username is StarFire2258.

Starfire is an Airforce research lab.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starfire_Optical_Range

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but either this is a huge coincidence or Sean is into this ARG because he's into lasers, or he's just come to the site to give us a nudge in the right direction.

If you're reading this Sean, and want to set me straight then Embarassed

I found this by clicking on the google laser logo, then the wiki link
Quote:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser

then by spotting the picture and name on the right hand side of the page.

Edit: I take it back, Sean, I just found your 1up profile, guess youve been using that username for a while and it is just a coincidence. "the real coincidence would be if there were no coincidences" or somet like that.

Feel like i've been pounce on....

anyway, when you click on the lazers it gives a bunch of searches on the very first laser ever made. Today is the anniversary. May 16 ...today is May 16.

Not pouncing just excited. I thought you meant today as in it was just invented today I didn't know you meant anniversary. Thought maybe you had found something new.

alexbutterfield, I think it's 48 years not 58 so you might want to correct your post above.

Thanks for reminding me/us about the lumen game. I'm going to download it and take a closer look.

I'm quite new to ARGs, but Holomove intrigues me, and I can proudly say I've been lurking from Day One. Some accomplishment, right? Just kidding.

Don't know how much or often I can contribute, but I did spot something today that you might like to know about.

I wasn't even looking for anything Holomove, but while I was searching for a new laptop I saw that the Notebook Review forums have begun displaying Holomove ads.

http://www.notebookreview.com/

Can anyone else see these ads? When Im go to the link the ad banners are missing with an error message or just a blank white box.

I've tried clearing cookies and temp files but same result.

I can see them. Not sure how to tell you to fix the problem. I could try and get some screen caps for you, if that will help.

Edit: to add some screen caps so you can get the general idea.

I don't see any of these ads, after a short refresh session. Something I'm missing, or is it US-only (I saw a few ads that could only have been UK-based).

ETA: Seems like confirmation that UK peeps don't see the ads. I do see other ads, though.

IP Phone

Ok, so yesterday in the chat room, we had a short discussion about the "Visit from george" youtube clip by nate, and that he mentions an IP Phone.

Someone, sorry i can't remember who, said maybe it was Skype related.

So this morning I dl'd Skype to mess around with and after lots of failed attempts on various searches I tried adding contact Poulopatis.

It worked.

There is a user called Poulopatis registered in the USA...

And that's as far as it seems to go. Anyone have any thoughts?

We use IP phones where I work. As far as I know, they have nothing to do with Skype, so it's not necessarily a connection there.

I haven't been able to see the particular image in question yet, but "Our Wikipedia entry is longer than yours" -- you think we're missing a wiki entry? Smile I wonder what other sites these images are being fed to - doubleclick.net randomly feeds ads based on website content, I think, so it's possible that other technology sites have these ads popping up.

EDIT:

Found another place they're being Linked: About.com's page on Noble Prize Winners:

The website for the "Reach The Future" foundation. It's pretty new and... well doesn't seem right, have a look and see if there's something here or I'm just sleep deprived.

Reach the future is the advertising campaign slogan and is on the holomove homepage source text.

I call OOG. See the whois info for reasoning-

I removed the addresses and phone numbers for sakes of bots. Regardless- the site was registered in January- not really that long ago, and doesn't necessarily rule the site out, but the registrar info does. It doesn't match that of holomove.com or freyjacapital.com. As a rule of thumb, that will be consistant throughout.

Brownie

ETA: Oh yeah- regarding the Holomove ads on notebookreview.com- Google places ads everywhere based on the page's tags. I bet you a dollar you'll start seeing Holomove ads other places too, possibly even including M$, cnet, any kind of tech sites.

I'm in the US and although I don't see those sidebar ads upon refresh, I do see a single fat Holomove ad in the middle of the page:
