Location: Atlanta

For those who want it to be near a national landmark the location in Atlanta is next to two landmarks. One is Rhodes Hall a turn of the century castle and the other is the Margaret Mitchell house. These are both within half a mile of the GPS location.

Hello, I've been following the game for a while now and I was wondering if anyone had pinpointed the exact location of the point on/near Fargo, North Dakota?

Hey guys... sorry to ruin any momentum...

but if these coordinates are accurate to within 100 feet or so, then why would they put them "just sort of near" libraries and chinese restaurants and such? Why not list the exact coordinates?

Feel free to spec away... but I'm not convinced about the library thing. If, in fact, specific buildings or things at the locations are important, I'd think that they would have to be right on the dot - and EVERY coodinate should have them in common.

This is a computer doing this. Computers aren't sloppy.

By the way... me and handful are on our way out to check the Chicago coords. I'll report back on any similarities.

by the way by the way...

I've got my hands on a gps, but it lists coordinates in the format
xx°xx.xxx
as opposed to
xx.xxxx
like ilb. Anyone know how to convert this? Just move the decimal?

Request for information:

Anyone have a way to add a column to their information to pull the ELEVATION for each point? I don't have that info here... But it IS something that each point will have in common.

I've been by the Pittsburgh, PA location a lot, and to my recollection, there is no library, landmark, or cell phone tower in that location.

The location has a strip mall (Norman Centre II) which has a Borders (book store), and a couple other various stores, none of which are of much interest (clothing, pie, and trinket shop, as I recall).

There's a mall complex near there, but it seems like they could have put the target on the mall if they wanted to.

I think we can safely say to look for 'places with lots of books' rather than 'libraries'.

However, a couple of the scout reports don't even have that. I'm vaguely curious if there's grouping going on, so set A has the book places, set B has the places with fountains, set C has historical sites, etc.

Just a hunch... but if there are actually people going to those locations, I think it might be a good idea to take note of any billboards or prominent advertising space in the area. It seems the majority of locations are in large population centers, or metro areas. If this game has advertising at its core...that might be something to look into when the 24th rolls around.

I guess this post was forgotten in the flurry, but I think it might, at the very least, be worth seeing if there are billboards or large advertising spaces.

this is spec, and more than anything, just confirms what i'm sure everyone is thinking, anyway... but i found an interesting bit of info about axoms, and how they might relate to what the operator is attempting to do.

an experiment was done in an attempt to cure patients suffering from parkinson's disease, in which cells from a pig embryo were transplanted into a human brain. though it didn't really work, it was shown that some of the pig cells extended axoms into the human brain.

http://www.dmac.co.uk/gen/xeno.html (btw, how creepy is the picture on this page?)

clearly, the operator is trying to reconstruct its brain so that it can send a signal to someone (presumably someone in the future). it has extended its axoms into our greatest wealth of information (the WWW) in order to gather info so it can send this message.

i'm wondering if there isn't some sort of link between these cities and the specific information the operator is looking for (ie. time travel, communication, etc.). i sure haven't found much, but it could be a possible lead.
