 James Mission

Everyone in the Bay Area, please contact me via gmail (my name) if you have not received a google doc that we are using to organize this mission. Cineball, I am mostly talking to you, but anyone else whom I am unaware of, it's time to speak up if you want to help us all out with this mission.

Thanks!

According to Markus's and Kai's last mails, the plot against James might not work the way it was originally intended.

See http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25603 for the latest news from Markus and Kai.

The more details we get from Markus, the more it sounds like he wasn't doing the personal labyrinth rite in that situation. He was in a human labyrinth. It sounds more like they were trying to open one-way or two way omphalos communication or something.

I don't think Markus's experience or reports should discourage this effort. Go team!

I totally agree with you in this point.

If the purpose is communication, why didn't they try personal communication? I might be fairly confused about purposes of labyrinths.

If we're doing it next week, Friday's my only possibility. Otherwise, if we wait an additional week, then the following Monday (the 26 I think) and that Thursday-Friday are good. I'm still not sure if I'll be around the first week of June. Should probably decide :/

As for being there at 6:30, you can pretty much count on me being there.

And man, SF's Mytho-heavy. I generally don't consider myself a Thumos... but I suppose I could give it a shot. I'm reckless enough Very Happy

I was tertiary Thumos, not much, but it can work, and I'll be available any day but Wednesday and Friday this week.

My secondary strength is Thumos. According to Kai, we ALL need to have some Thumos for this mission. All I know is, if there is any gun play, I am so out of there. Smile

I was just chatting with Kai about scheduling. It appears that Kai is of the impression that this week isn't so good, and that next week might be better. Particularly Thursday or Friday (5/29, 5/30)

So he wants everyone participating to fill out their availability for next week.

Please do that if you haven't.

If you don't have access to the shared Google Doc, and are in the SF area (or willing to come for this), and have a Gmail account plz pm your address so I can forward a link to you.

He also mentioned wanting to find someone beside himself who is a Dikaiosune...not sure who is one. But the more the merrier.

Some notes from the document:

Sofia will create a personal labyrinth at the mission site and come prepared with as much background information about TheO as possible.
Thumos will help me seize and restrain James.
Chariton will get into James' head and convince him that if he's right, he has nothing to fear by walking the personal labyrinth.
Dikaiosune will oversee the interrogation once we've started to weaken James with the labyrinths.
Sophrosune will make sure it doesn't get out of hand.
Mythopoeia will document it to make sure we have a record of any information we gain.

Materials:
What do we need? Who can bring what?

  • How do we make sure that the labyrinth works? We don't want to get shut out like Theo was with Markus? What was it that they did wrong?
  • We could inadvertently inspire other parallel James to align with this James, creating more parallel bad James instead of converting this one. How can we prevent this?

Anyone have suggestions?

SWEET! My last final is on Thursday 29! Since Cineball can't come on Friday should we tentatively plan on the 29th?

As far as materials... I'll bring my videocamera for a Mythopoeia (any of us) to tape, since that'll be important for everyone not coming. And of course we need to bring string and chalk, since we don't know if we will be able to draw on the roof--although I expect we will be able to.

And of course our trusty rope protractor... and... um... yeah anything else we need? If Kai wants us to do anything other than a 3-circuit then we'll be there a while >.<

So, since I am saddled with being a Chariton, my task is to "get into James' head and convince him that if he's right, he has nothing to fear by walking the personal labyrinth."

Has anyone any bright ideas about how I might approach this? I mean, I can talk and talk, but if you have some insight about what I should say to him, PLEASE share it with me, because I have a feeling talking just isn't enough in and of itself.

Try the same tone and words James uses in his own e-mail. What does he say about all this? That Ariadne ridiculous or nonsense or something? I can't find right thread to read them and they aren't on the Wiki at the moment, but anyway that's my suggestion. Some of you already met him, no?

how about playing a bit of good cop/bad cop?

I guess Thumos and Dikaiosune should be the bad cops (thumos by restraining James and Dikaiosune by supervising the interrogation in a really cold way), and Chariton and Sophrosune being the good cops. Sophrosune should just try to calm down thumos and dikaiosune, assuring james he's not going to be hurt. Chariton should interest him/herself about James opinion in the matter. Why is he working with Theo? What have they told him? If he's working with them, he must know the consequences of his actions, and noone believes the world destruction would do any good, so there must be something else. Try to get him to tell you his point of view, tell him how you are not all so sure you're doing the right thing, so that he tells you more. And, when he has told you and is walking the labyrinth, begin pointing the contradictions in his theory, there must be some wrong points somewhere in there you can use... I'm pretty sure he'll be using that old "end justifies means" philosphy, but you'll sure be able to defeat it (millions of people dying during natural synchronizations should be your starting point).

Well, that's some ideas to begin...

I'm probably not available at all next week. I can try to come down if the friend I'm bringing on the 7th is free whenever you plan it, but no guarantees.

Listen more than you talk. If he starts off on some diatribe let him go. If he just sits silently, well, then we'll just have to think on our feet.

Keep him comfortable so that he'll lower his defense mechanism and be open-minded to actually try doing a personal labyrinth.
And use your charm and sex appeal! Wink

Yeah, I expect James will probably hear my little anti-Desynch rant at some point. Something about how desynch is the coward's way out, that we're sacrificing all the other worlds to save ourselves, and that hiding isn't the answer.
