The trick in Audacity I learned here awhile ago was this. Take a stereo source and do a "Split Stereo Track" which gives you two separate tracks. Change each track to Mono. Select one track and do Effect->Invert. Then select both tracks and choose Project->Quick Mix. From there is just reversing the track and adjusting gain. This is generally a way to remove vocals from a music track, but works well if you have mono noise over a stereo track.

The outbreak claimed the lives of over a hundred people before the government could implement prevention measures and eradicate the disease.
