[HOLO] Nate's blog

I figure now that we can, we'll start a new thread for Nate's blog.

New entry with new private video (pw: LochLomond):

Okay. thanks for the notes, you guys. I don't know where to begin, really.

I have this friend who's trying to get his commercial pilot's license. Bad timing, given the airline situation, but it's his dream, can't begrudge him that. Anyway, over the winter, he came out to do a little boarding, and we were hanging out afterwards, having a drink. I don't really like to fly, and so, I was asking him about the risks, and he said, "You know, it's never the first mistake that kills you, Nate. Most of the time, you can get away with one. But what happens is, the first mistake is followed by a second, and then a third, and the next thing you know, you're the top story on Channel 4, and the forensics lab is trying to figure out what parts go where."

Well, yesterday, my mistake #2 and #3 (maybe 12 and 13?) were calling her back. Also texting. In between drinks.

And she unloaded more baggage than one of those new a380s. (flying the hell out of here is apparently top of mind).

Hates me? Check. Thought the sex was horrible? Check. GOOD NEWS. IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER, PEOPLE.

She was with me because she wanted to make sure I was "onboard," that I really wanted to solve the subroutines on the haptics generator, blah blah blah. Not just collecting a paycheck. Speaking of money, guess who owns 19% of Holomove? Eliza Marks. And that would be, because she happens to be the heir to the Gough estate, because she's actually Dr. Gough's daughter.

Except, and this is such a shock, given her pleasant behavior to me yesterday…they were estranged. Dad was a "miserable, rotten, bald headed son of a bitch," who phoned it in on the home front, and saw the kid about an hour a week.

And it's not like her Mother was going to argue against the name change. She divorced the bastard 20 years ago.

I can only imagine how much fun they had at Thanksgiving.

So now, I get to deal with all of this, daily. Oh. I just realized my 4th mistake. Posting that video to the world, what she said about the sex.

Poof. My career, and any hopes of dating anyone. At least in this lifetime.

Poor guy.

All of those who had Eliza as the daughter, collect your 2 to 1 payout at SpaceBass' house. Razz

I know that was a topic of discussion in the chat... now I wonder if maybe she isn't really onto Nate snooping in the Doc's office. Secondly... now I wonder if she wasn't behind Doc's demise, based off RK's whole "Stabbed, in the back" thing.

Eliza sounds like the type of woman that would end up getting trapped in a security system when the Halon goes off... Wink

And thank God most programmers don't own guns or Nate *would* be the top story on Channel 4.

Wiat a second. She's estranged from her father, so she goes to work for her father's company and, not only raving about innovation and the future and such (see the voicemail vid) but also sleeping around to make sure people are committed to it?

Then she admits same to those people!?

This woman makes no sense.

Like most women!

I think she helped in Gough's murder. Perhaps Erik didn't have a part in it at all - it was all her, manipulating people. She seems good at that, no?

What is compltely unrealistic: he's a programmer with a limited social life, and he discovers that she's been having sex with him so that he can be a better, more driven programmer.

Is there a problem here? Where do I sign up for this company? I need all the motivation I can get! Twisted Evil

I suppose there is a chance that she's pulling the 'cruel to be kind' bit and trying to push him away in order to spare him from some impending doom.

...Or she's just an amoral harpy.

Initial spec on the code behind the photo is something maybe to do with a WMD? Could Holomove be building something for a government that could be used in a destructive manner?

Nate wrote:
The technology…WMD? No, no way. It's just a new model, a new vision for a UI. As soon as we can iron out the issues. 250k lines of code on my plate. Gough's handiwork, most of which….works.

I don't know, Nate, Kona has a very valid point. The inventor of dynamite never intended its purpose for harm, and some research I did today on the Battle of Ypres had a Nobel Scientist's knowledge of chlorine gas used in the first mass chemical warfare in WWI. Later his institute and knowledge was used to develop the gasses for the Concentration Camps.

The kicker? He was Jewish.

What new technology wouldn't be probed for weaponry? A tactile hologram would be insane in wartime combat - the invulnerable soldier.

Mouse: I'll give it some thought. Security is tight, here, but what tech firm isn't like that? I mean, it's not like I can just walk into Apple, right?

Once more, with feeling
May 22nd, 2008

Well, I woke up, and the sun was in the sky. Not sunny and 72° (shocking) but up. At least today. Looks like a storm is coming in, maybe tomorrow. So much for the holiday weekend.

Point is, the sun came up today. Life moves on, and I guess I need to as well. Of course, I say that and then glance over at the bed, which is conspicuously empty. And then I go to work, and there's a chill in the air, even when there isn't. I was in a meeting yesterday, and she glossed over me like I was the intern.

You know what's ironic? This…woman is messed / deranged / ill enough to think she needs to fake everything (poor choice of words) to make sure I do my work…and yet, I'm already doing it. The work, I mean. (btw, what kind of MBA program teaches the Eliza Marks' approach to motivation, anyway? I don't even know if she has an MBA. How telling is that? We never really talked about her—she always kept the focus on Nate, Nate, Nate.)

Sorry. My train of thought derailed. I didn't bust my ass in school to phone it in, now. I'm an excellent coder, good at my job, better than just about everyone I've come across. And I wasn't placed on this world to collect a paycheck. I'm getting steamed, now. More like, pissed off. How dare she think that I'd need motivation TO DO MY JOB.

Fact is, I've made progress. A lot of it. But let me tell you, I'm not going to race over to her desk and give her a big hug and tell her all of her worries are over, that we're getting close on ironing out the issues on this thing. That her 19% might actually be worth something, when I'm done. Let her stew. Let her think her little "project" is still a full tilt SNAFU.

I don't know whether I should hate her, or feel sorry for her. This sucks. 70 hour weeks ≠ meeting people. At least, meeting people like her. I know it's stupid, completely wrong, but she's…made a mark. I'm an idiot. I can't help it. But you know what they say. Time wounds all heels.

I'm surprised.

As a programmer, mentioning that he's a programmer in the post, surely he would have used != rather than looking up whatever code was necessary for the ≠ symbol.

Razz
