From the FAQ...
Quote:
What is Wizard101?
Wizard101 is a 3D massively multiplayer online personal computer adventure game where kids can play together in a fantasy world and in a safe environment.
Basically they're going after something like PristonTale where the mechanics are extremely dumbed down and the entire system is moderated and parental controlled. Swell.
Well this is anti-climactic.
*EDIT*
This explains a lot:

Can't pick your own name and apparently can't even text chat; you talk through predefined statements and actions (gotta love the examples on the bottom right... "Please be my friend" ?!? ).

Actually I am going to look into this more. My 9 year old loves Webkins, she might like this as well.

OK. Empowermint is getting seriously angry.
Not only did I fail to post about half an hour ago. despite actually clicking post. I remember doing it. But I failed to click "Notify" so there were eight pages of comments when I eventually got around to looking again.
Did anyone else spot that the 'security' logo on wizard101 has a spiral on it?
Anyway, I'll hang about for qa day or two, but if this is as childish as it looks I'm outta here.

OMG! I've finally found something that both sucks and blows at once...
Someone in the marketing department needs to get fired asap.

Something about this bothers me. On the http://www.ravenwoodcollege.com site, it has the two phrases "Seek the spiral" and "All is not as it seems". Almost every page you pull up that has pics has some sort of spiral on it. Anyone think we would miss something if we didn't check this out just a little? I may sign up tomorrow, when it's not so late and I have a little sense about me. I just think the ravenwood site makes things look a lot more interesting than the wizard101 site.
Edit: It also doesn't make sense to me that they would send a press release to Despoiler over this.

I signed up just in case but after you register you're put on a waiting list and it says it may take several weeks before you're accepted.

Yeah, I'm going to wait for some kind of assurance that this is an ARG before I go signing up for this.

If I didn't have a seven year old son that might want to play this, I too would have unsubscribed immediately.
But, yeah, I don't see an ARG in all this.

sounds like a typical father/son relationship...always high-fiving each other when making moves on the ladies
