Why no Florida ARGish stuff???

Okay so i live on the middle east-side of Florida, and looking through UF i've seen that there are quite a few of us Floridian ARGers. I feel quite left out of the event things where I am (even though I just moved here from Montana, and that was REALLY out there) but I mean, Florida is no small place, it seems most events are centralized to the north east or south west. Orlando/Miami are no small places, and I think the last thing placed in a florida area was in a Miami bowling alley for TDK. Thats over 3 hours away from me, but if I had more advanced notice, I totally would have taken the time for a short roadtrip.

I understand that ARGs cant be everywhere, but for any PMs reading this, show a lil' love for us Floridians.

Plus, with the early problems from The Rivard Project's forum stuff, that put me off of the game, Maureen Pickles seems to have imploded, BOL/SID is having UF troubles and hasnt yet started, holomove has slowed down a tad, and Aporia Agathon hasnt officially started, i'm starving for some more ARGs! (sorry for the rant there Razz )

Vecheeso, I feel your pain. But while I understand where you are comming from, I also know that most PM's who do their own game, and are not backed by a big corporation, are on a very limited budget. Also, doing drops in your hometown gives away the PM's location so to speak...

Think about this.. what if all the mailings that everyone has received in the BOL/SID game all had a Miami postmark... The element of "alternate reality" just wouldn't be believable at that point.. It's more of adapting the drops to the game's content...

And be patient about the games starting!! every game that is awesome had to be well planned out... I don't think that the games slowing down is a bad thing either... sometimes us players figure out stuff to quickly and it leaves the PM grasping for the next play...

yeah i know people have limited budgets, and I know dropping it from your hometown gives it away, but it really seems even the big budget ones dont have much Florida stuff

I am creating an ARG on no budget as well. I am not really talking about the smaller budget people, I'm mostly referring to the middle-big ones. Grassroots I dont expect them to do such things, but the ones with bigger budgets, I think tend to neglect non-metropolitan areas. Thats kinda what i was talking about. But valid and true points nonetheless, thanks!

*cough!* Yeah...

You actually have a few people in Central Florida (Gainesville, Orlando, Tampa). South Florida... well I'm basically screwed.

I'm angry I didn't know about the Miami bowling alley in time for TDK. I would have so assaulted that place; that thing would have been MINE!

Dead drops are hard to do as it is, even harder to do when you're trying to do them outside of your own vicinity. You have to trust other individuals to do it, and sometimes you get unpredictable results. Without an on the spot analysis of where things are being dropped, you lose control. For all you know, because you depend on someone who's not a designer of your game, your package may never be found.

Wasn't that the case with one of the shards in TSR, that was in such an obscure and inaccesible place that it took someone three trips to find it?

And, unfortunately, I only personally know of one other active player anywhere near me, and I'm pretty sure they know I'm the only one in their area. It'd be kinda obvious to figure out the source if I use them as a dead drop recipient.

So I have to rely on mail. Worked OK so far, but I do feel bad about my inability to send certain things overseas. Nothing personal, Brits! Wink

yeah i can certainly understand. I guess im just sad that Florida isnt considered a more reliable place for PMs (with budgets etc.) to drop stuff or have events at, ya know? well you have a ton of posts Night, so i'm sure you have felt this pain for much longer than I

BTW, I heard about something UF has that u can place a 'pinpoint' of sorts on a map and see all the other ppl here on UF who have placed their marker of where they live. Or is that a UF admin-only thing? just curious

That gives me an idea. Who wants to do a Disneyworld/Universal live event?

On another note, I do know that GMD studios (the Eldritch guys) are actually Florida-based. I guess the lack of drops in FL from them is, again, a case of it being a bit too close to home.

I'd be down for that, I could then have more than just one excuse to drag the wife to the Happiest Place On Earth, or to the Islands of Adventure Smile

i found it and placed my token ty!

*EDIT* P.S. it's Memorial Day Weekend. A vast majority of people have a three day weekend, and several places have just started their summer. My question is why havent more ARGs launched for this weekend? I guess mebbe im just impatient with all these 'soon to be launched' ARGs and all the imploding ones that do launch :-/ (and slowly the onsets of ARG-player bitterness begin...) Razz

I didn't even know what an ARG was until Cloverfield and Ethan Haas, so I'm sorry I missed that.

Still trying to arrange going to Boston...
