I lived in Charlotte from 1994 to 2004. and now just down the road in Concord (yes, the race was here this weekend UGH).
as soon as i saw the layout of the uptown area and the location of the airport and the river, i knew it was Charlotte. the arena was just confirmation.

the inset picture also includes some parking lots and buildings surrounding the arena. i'm trying to nail down exact names etc for you.

The man and the woman in the image may be Helen Nyx and Christopher Rybeck, the organizers of the Umbrati and Lightbringers, respectively. Seems reasonable that there would be a feud between the two over differing views on how to rule the world. Wink

ETA: Googling the phrase in the image yields a band named "Athena," which may or may not be relative.

Escape from loss

Regarding loss and the Charlotte Bobcats... (as if that wasnt enough explanation.. dear old Bob Johnson, owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, has mentioned that he might like to move the Bobcats out of Charlotte because he's loosing revenue due to low attendance. **cough cough get a team thats worth watching cough cough** (and yes, the team was named after him "Bob" Cats.)

it could be said that he's trying to "escape the loss"

and on a whole other level.... the arena represents another kind of loss:

Charlotte/Mecklenburg County as a whole never wanted the arena built (and in fact voted it down in a general election), but city planners and the powers that are, pushed and pushed and pushed and now Meck county has to pay taxes to support this arena, (and bob's tax break) that was built "uptown"... after the other basketball coliseum was torn down after only 10 years because it was "out of date" (bob wanted an uptown arena, not one that was 10 miles away), (just another reason on a long list of why I moved out of Mecklenburg County)
