My House Hates Me

5:30 this morning, the smoke detectors started ringing. I got up, found a shirt (I like that I get dressed for possible fires), and went searching for the source. It took me a minute to notice that it was raining.

Turns out there's a leak in the roof. Water had poured down through the attic (which is now a mess) and trickled through some of the wiring in the ceiling. Well, some of the water had emptied into one of the smoke detectors as well....

I'm fortunate that a fire didn't start from that. It's what I've come to expect, though, from the house that hates me. Every week is a new problem. Bad plumbing, poor drywalling, now the leak in the roof and attic, plus the water damage to the walls and ceiling. Earlier this year, half of the patio covering got ripped out by a storm. I guess I should be upset at the weather and not the house.

Anyway, that was my wakeup call today. Anyone have other horrible home problems to share?

Nothing really, but your story does help remind me that my life could be worse. I've been moping around about being at work today but at least my house isn't all waterlogged. Confused I hope everything works out okay for you, Omega.

*laugh* I guess that's true. I'm always a bit nervous that I'm going to come here too often and it's going to make a blip on the netnanny radar and they're going to deny my access! *looks over shoulder nervously*

Thankfully I'm a productive kid otherwise and we're just kind of slow today. It makes up for my "gaming" habit here. Wink

We don't joke about that sort of thing around here, Lunsford. Bringing Unfiction into the workplace is a serious matter. Razz

I work in a lab. I'm in a fairly entry-level position; nothing interesting with beakers or potions or whatever, but I basically do problem solving when we can't find a sample or if other people in our lab make mistakes. It's interesting and rewarding work. Not what I was planning on get into but it's good for now.

Edited to add: I just re-read this and I sound like a company brochure. Whoops. *laugh* I do like my job quite a bit though, despite how dry and procedural I make it sound.

Ha, that's what proxies and using https:// is for Wink
Anyway, that sounds pretty bad Omega, and nothing that's gone wrong in my house has come close to that. Hopefully you'll get all that stuff fixed someday.
